Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

Bahumbug; inner child nothing. All that is is a marketing gimmick, one that has been made acceptable as a cover for "willing to buy whatever you shovel at me".

If you accept scraps then that's what you'll get.

There will always be people not happy no matter who writes or directs. It's art, all subjective opinions anyway, not science.

Review/Q&A from someone who attended the premiere. Photo proof of his attendee badge is in the comments, so it's legit:

The TL;DR is he didn't hate it, but he didn't particularly like it either. Sounds like the movie is a mashup of Star Wars Gratest Hits in service of setting up a bunch of sequels, but with little substance or payoff or even basic explanation for what's happening and why within the movie's own story. Very disappointing if true.

What is it with all the, "but this is never explained and that is never explained. Han's hair is now gray. But it's never explained why?". Are people really this dumb, now? (I know the answer to that. But, I'll never explain it.) It's the first in a SERIES of movies that will splain stuff. It's amazing how some people need every little thing laid out for them on screen or their brains simply cannot compute, infer or imply or realize that things will come into focus over 3 movies.

The original had 2 robots, one of which had no dialogue... Walking around the desert for the first 1/4 of the movie...

Who were they? What plans? Who is the heavy breathing guy in the black suit? Princess? What???

Yeah. I'm really glad they didn't go all "modern" and explain every detail ala "midichlorians"...

Whoever wrote those spoilers should be kneecapped. Not because they published spoilers, which may or may not be real, but because they have ZERO writing ability. That's why it sounds crappy, because they make it sound crappy. Reading that hurt my head.

Some people just need to get their kicks being dicks ...

You were saying.... :angel

While the answer may seem obvious, but I got retweeted by one of the ones known to have seen the movie listed on the news sites. I asked specifically about scene transition wipes, dissolves being used along with EPISODE VII in the crawl. And all 3 were confirmed for the movie. One brought it up on his feed that Leia being handed the lightsaber close-up and Kylo Ren lighting up his saber in the snowy woods (First teaser) scenes did NOT make it in the movie.

Yeah, but people were like this on tons of threads about the Prequels and that was used as proof they sucked. They said it sucked because Lucas didn't hold your hand and explain everything (Balance of the Force which no one gets, yet has been explained countless times....), so people can't have it both ways.

The difference is that Lucas wasted a lot of time clumsily trying to explain things that needed no explaining and thus demystifying and destroying some of the strongest story elements in Star Wars lore while NOT developing or explaining apparently important story points that contributed heavily to the amateurish and incomplete feel of the prequels. Compared to complaining about not getting an explanation as to why threepio's arm is red 30 years after ROTJ, which is just plain ludicrous. He's a machine. Things happen and parts change in 30 years. If someone needs that "explained" to them, the prequels already exist. Have at them.

When Star Wars came out, nobody bitched about not knowing who the emperor was, why you didn't see him, or why the Jedi were wiped out. There's an entire backstory to all the characters that you don't get explained and it worked brilliantly. Or, the Godfather...there is a history and back story referenced throughout the movie that you never get the details on. And, yet you have the greatest movie ever made. Your brain took the threads and filled in the blanks. Why people feel that everything must be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator because their brains don't work well enough to fill in the spaces on their own is insane.
