Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

I don't like the electro staff trooper. I think it's a dumb idea. I've read the speculation in the threads about the need for troops trained to fight Jedi. It just doesn't seem consistent to me. Rey obviously thinks Jedi were/are a myth from what we've seen in the trailer.

Why would a military invest so much resources into training and equipping soldiers with a weapon that has little likelihood of ever being needed escapes me. Plus a real trained Jedi could cut these guys down easily. The concept seems unnecessary to me. The clones didn't need these weapons to kill Jedi when Order 66 was initiated. They shot many Jedi down with blasters.[emoji12]

I might be wrong, but I'm guessing that might be the "Riot control Stormtrooper" mentioned before. Maybe it's just a secondary feature that they built in to withstand lightsabers. You're right though that a trained Jedi would have no trouble with a Stormtrooper even if they were some kind of expert in whatever weapon they were using.

I don't consider Luke the most powerful jedi ever. Maybe the most powerful jedi alive at the time of this movie. But not all time greatest....

Many powerful jedi went down in the arena on Geonosis in AOTC. No fancy weapons were needed. Blaster fire did the trick.:popcorn

He might not be the most powerful ever, but being Anakin's son (who apparently had the potential to be the most powerful ever) he is probably up there in the most powerful Jedi that have lived. That's exactly why the Emperor wanted him. Luke had the potential to be what his dad couldn't. Also the Jedi in the arena were outnumbered ridiculously. Lucas made a document that showed how many battledroids or SBDs a Jedi could take on, and at a certain number they are just overwhelmed.

Pretty much what Jason said. My thinking is the anti lightsaber is secondary and the staff is mainly a crowd/prisoner control weapon. Other wise design it so much like a nightstick and not a sword or actual staff.

Well, as far as we know, Rey lives on a world where Jedi and Sith are only myths. But the First Order is well aware of all these people, especially having Kylo within. So it is not totally silly :)
And, as the others said, it can be only a riot weapon and the electrum system dealing with lightsabers a side effect.
Still lot of possibilities.

About the Order 66, do not forget that they took the Jedi by surprise. It was a betrayal, not a known ennemy ^^

If the crowd control thing is correct, then it makes a little more sense to me. I guess I'll withhold further judgement pending Dec 18.

The action figure of this ST is called a Riot Trooper, so...

My wondeful wife picked this up for me yesterday.

All I know at this point is some of you owe Jason Ward an apology. There stuff has proven almost 95% accurate.
