Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

What is up with the First Order officer uniforms? Got some Hammer pants going on.
They are called "jodhpurs". In real life it is a traditional style of riding pants, also adopted by military officers who are not part of the Cavalry. They have been part of both British and German WWII officer uniforms, among others.
In Star Wars, the Imperial Officers in the original trilogy wore jodhpurs, so I suppose that these are a continuation of that.

I got news for you, ANH would have been PG-13 today. A bloody severed arm on the floor? It's meaningless for this film. In a world where Walking Dead is on broadcast TV, PG-13 isn't what it used to be. It's the equivalent of G.
If this organization had any real care about standards, than the original Star Wars movie WOULD be rated PG-13 today. How are they protecting the young movie goers with ratings that seem to be universally agreed upon to be completely outdated?

But than again, this is the same organization that declared a film with no violence, no sex, no nudity, no blood and no mean spirited use of language should not be seen by anyone under the age of 18. It's not like dealing with a speech impediment is material that constitutes a rating one grade short of NC-17.

But as Obi-Wan once said, who's the more foolish? The fool (the MPAA) or the fool who follows them (Directors who let films be dictated by the MPAA)? If PG-13 is the new G, that means we've had two G rated Terminator movies and one G rated ALIEN film. Does it really make any sense that there are Terminator and Alien movies that are on the same 'appropriate' level as Star Wars? Even JJ Abrams' friend and partner in crime Damon Lindelof believes that the original ALIEN would be rated PG-13 (G by your standards) today if they had only cut out a few bad words and maybe a second or two of violence. He probably thought the Chestburster scene was Looney Tunes material anyways.

The PG-13 rating is at best useless and at worst distracting. It's useless here because I don't think there is a soul on Earth who is going to worry about letting their kids of any age see this movie. Not after shoving the adorable BB-8 down our throats. I can only hope that there are no distracting PG-13 moments in this one. Since Star Wars is now PG-13, whos going to say no to an f-bomb?

I'm not seeing a problem with the rating. I doubt we'll see or hear anything that is out of line with the tone of the previous movies. I can't imagine Disney alienating any major part of the audience.

I wasn't going to let my kids see it, even before the rating. And don't forget guys, PG-13 didn't exist until after Temple of Doom.

A classic Romanian science magazine called Stiinta si Tehnica has a TFA cover and a ton of SW info. Glad to see something like this in Romania too:

Ok... I remember as a kid when Star Wars first came out... I remember the hype that started when Empire came out... but I was walking thru the store yesterday and I have to say I am completely and utterly flabbergasted at the way some companies are just slapping the Star Wars logo on their product just to sell it. I mean comon... Cover Girl Star Wars makeup? Star Wars Beef Jerky? Star Wars Kitty Litter? Star Wars Salad Dressing?? What the hell man? At least back in the day there was some kind of tie-in to the movie... but really? Kitty litter??

So what exactly does PG-13 mean? Kid under 13 can't see it, can't see it without an adult, or is it just a warning that it might be too strong for an under 13 kid?

i believe just a warning not a requirement that a parent or guardian accompany the minor like an R rating does.

Both, although the rating description says it means that no kids under 13 can see it without an accompanying adult. Personally, I don't see the problem with TFA being rated PG-13, so what if no 12 year olds can ride up to theater on their bikes by themselves to see it, they'll just have to wait until their parents take them to see it, parents who'll probably want to see it themselves anyway. Sure, there might be a few parents who might not let their kids see TFA because of the PG-13 rating but I think those will be few and far between, most parents tend to lean the other direction and let their kids see things they shouldn't and then complain about it when it turns out to be in appropriate for them.

That's not what the MPAA website says. There is no specific requirement a parent or guardian accompany a child under 13.
