Star Wars Andor (Disney+ TV series)

Just want to add to the praise of this show. It's like a dream come true having a Star Wars entry that has zero moments of cringe. And on top of that, it was actually engaging. Absolutely loved it and can't wait for more. Good work to everyone involved.

I think that the reason why it doesn't feel like Star Wars to you is that it's focusing on a part of the Star Wars universe that we've seen very little of in the movies and that's the life of regular people, civilians who aren't a part of the Rebellion or the Empire. The movies only ever give us brief glimpses of ordinary civilians living their daily lives, we tend to only see Rebel bases or ships, Jedi Temples, Imperial ships, and bases. So showing us these extended looks at civilian life in the Star Wars universe is bound to feel a bit off since that's never been a focus of the movies.
 
I'm digging it so far! I can empathize with those who were distracted by bricks and shoe laces, but personally neither of those details registered while I watched it. Having gone back to view it, I think the architecture makes up for the bricks, so I'm fine with it. This series (thus far) has been handled much more deftly than the more recent SW shows (IMHO).
 
The show telegraphed the central arc when Cassian had Syril at gunpoint.
He takes Syril's comm and smashes it showing that he's absorbing lessons like a sponge from Luthen.
Luthen says, "Kill him," but Cassian doesn't. This is going to bite him later on. Syril may end up killing Maarva and/or his sister and Cassian will regret not having killed Syril earlier. That final lesson will inform the character we meet in Rogue One.

I have to say again how I love the relationships in this show - how they are written and performed. The back and forth between Cassian and his buddy, Brasso, are terrific. I like his unspoken chemistry with Bix hinting just enough about their history without some contrived exposition. I also appreciate Bix being detained by the authorities without the obligatory "girl power" moment where she overpowers three constables with kung-fu.

I really like Maarva. Her part could have been an underwritten archetype, but they honored the character well. Again, without ham-handed exposition, they managed to realize the maternal affection of this character. The final shots of Cassian leaving Ferrix under the wing of his new mentor that paralleled his departure from Kenari with Maarva was just beautifully done. I don't know if Maarva's tears are only over his leaving the nest or if it is because she knows what he may become.
 
I like Andor so far. I think Andor is a a Star Wars series made for the mature audience (just like Rogue One, maybe even more), a series that develops slower and which already has a great impact on Original Trilogy fans.

Yes. That was unexpectedly brutal.
It was also unexpected that we see the constable who shot him in shock.

Maybe, the more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards music being a larger factor. Imagine the prequels with house music instead of JW.

I personally like the music but I do find it so strange that none of the ancillary Star Wars projects have tried to follow the John Williams template since Rogue One. Especially considering how good a job I feel Michael Giacchino did for Rogue One’s score.
 
Really enjoyed the first 3 episodes.

I did have one question from Episode 3, though.
The crew of the wrecked ship definitely appeared to have Confederacy of Independent Systems markings and logos on their uniforms. However, when B says that the Republic Frigate in inbound, Maarva says they have to take Cassian because the kids killed a Republic officer and that the Republic would retaliate. But, the crew of the downed ship all had CIS uniforms.

I'm wondering if this is a mistake on Maarva's part, indicating her neutrality in the conflict, that she can't tell the two sides apart, or is this alluding to an event that happened in the past, perhaps when the tribe was stranded there (as I get big Lord of The Flies/we're shipwrecked vibes from the tribe) that hasn't been shown?

Alright, after seeing the first eps I must confess that the lack of aliens is not bothering me all that much as I initially feared. I'm curious to see how the journey continues. I won't be able to watch the latest ep before Saturday though because yesterday evening I accidentally burnt my remaining highspeed volume. :/
 
Holy ****, episode 4 rocked. This show just gets better and better...the incredible dialogue and focus on the everypeople of the galaxy (from criminals on the run to senators, Imperial officers, and disillusioned corporate security officers), great stuff.

So many wicked Easter eggs, and just an all around beautiful set in general. I was drooling through that entire scene. There's what appears to be an Indy whip encased in carbonite in the background as well...
