Star Wars Andor (Disney+ TV series)

Holy ****, episode 4 rocked. This show just gets better and better...the incredible dialogue and focus on the everypeople of the galaxy (from criminals on the run, senators, Imperial officers, and disillusioned corporate security officers)

So many wicked Easter eggs, and just an all around beautiful set in general. I was drooling through that entire scene. There's what appears to be an Indy whip encased in carbonite in the background as well...
I didn’t catch that at all.

Just watched episode 1.
Slow burn, but very solid foundation.
Performances and dialogs so far are outstanding. Makes the other shows look even more like Cheetos commercials filmed by monkeys on Fentanyl.

I wonder if it'll have an influence on the upcoming SW projects.
I wonder if KK looks back at some of the stuff on BOBF and questions some of the creative aspects of them.
I wonder what Lucas thinks about this.

Before today I only wondered when I'll be cancelling my D+ subscription. So, it's a good day.

My $2.99 a month paid in full for three years runs out this December (?) and I'm thinking there WON'T be any more discounts/specials like that so they can milk all they can out of Disney+

I have the same deal. Totally worth it (at that price).

This show continues to be a slowwwwww burn but the restraint they've shown so far is a breath of fresh air. Less bombast and more low-key. We're seeing some of the more mundane aspects and I continue to enjoy seeing more groundlevel type stuff. The acting and dialogue continue to be some of the best we've seen in SW. I really like the look of Imperial Center Coruscant although I will admit I would've expected to see lots of star destroyers and other ships in orbit (will we ever get live action Victory-class star destroyers???). I thought Mon Mothma's apartment looked perfect for her, in an opulent, 70s retrofuturistic way. Something about many of the sets just look more believable than much of what we've seen prior. The show still feels like it had a much higher budget but I have no clue if that was the case.

Someone mentioned the lack of aliens and I've noticed that as well but what I noticed more is the relative lack of droids. Especially on Ferrix, with their apparent shipbreaking operations, I would think droids would feature heavily in such work. Less a nitpick and more an observation, I suppose.

I noticed Mon Mothma's surprisingly pompous husband apparently invited Sly Moore, among others to the dinner party. She'd be neat to see since we've not seen her since the PT and she had close ties to Palpatine, at least early on.

Just binged the first 4, and I’m seriously impressed. The real sets and location filming really shine here. The Volume has its benefits but there are times in Mando and Kenobi where it was achingly obvious. The acting so far has been top notch all around, with great writing and believable characters. And I’m loving the music, it doesn’t scream Star Wars but its definitely got a 1970s dystopian sci-if movie feel to it.

This is by far the best SW has been since TESB. Completely blown away with how good the script and acting has been so far. So much subtlety and depth in this series it’s great to see. Each episode keeps getting better. Finally a SW spin off that remembers the importance of this line without banging you over the head.. “Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?”

Thanks for that, also helps to clarify the exact TimeLine. I didn't even think to check StarWars.com for the Episode Guides. I used to read those all the time during the Clone Wars to see the concept art and BTS stuff.

It's definitely an interesting choice to have it be Pre-Clone Wars, but have Republic Officials wearing a logo that looks so similar to the CIS's eventual logo. I wonder if that will ever become a plot point or be given an explanation in some future media.

I think that the show is benefitting from its longer episode count and at that the same time, that's what I felt hurt the other shows. 6 episodes is just not enough to develop a dramatic series, at least not without some seriously disciplined writing. If Andor were only 6 episodes as opposed to 12, then all of the first 3 episodes probably would have taken place in just the first episode, ep. 4 in the second episode, and the whole thing would feel uneven and rushed, much like how BoBF and Kenobi. I hope Disney takes note and allows more of their MCU and Star Wars shows to go for more than a mere 6 episodes a season.

I get the feeling that a lot of their shows so far have been partially recycled film scripts, which doesn’t help. They stretch a two hour movie into a five to six hour show, realize they don’t know how to pad it out, then end up with 32 minute episodes with some things happening too fast and the rest being filler. I mean, isn’t it pretty much all but confirmed that both Boba Fett and Kenobi are in fact based off of existing film scripts?

I would think a production is likely to favor fewer episodes if an expensive celebrity cast is being paid per episode, too. Andor definitely has a creative edge there.

Man, a lot of the actors in this show are so good I'm looking to see what else they've done. I feel so out of touch for not knowing most of them.

Stellan Skarsgård has enough celebrity cred that he can get away with phoning in this part but he really puts his teeth into it. I haven't seen him this strong since ... Good Will Hunting (?), Ronin (?).

I wonder if the producers of Andor deliberately split up an initial 100 min pilot into three episodes because it's a different scale for episodes approaching feature length.

Stellan Skarsgård is fantastic. This show will get many award recognitions and his performance will be singled out. The whole cast is fantastic. I dont think I’ve ever seen Kyle Soller before this series but he also kills it. He does so much without even saying a word. But every actor has this opportunity in this series. The writing and directing is top shelf stuff. Again something I did not think we’d be getting in a Disney plus SW show. Even Mando pales in comparison to what’s happing here. Only 4 episodes in so I am a little hesitant.. but so far it’s been brilliant and fully rewatchable!

Still diggin' it.
Fun to watch the Imp wipe the floor with the CoreSec guys.
But later I wondered why that incident would warrant this action. An internal matter was bungled that had ill effects to one civilian and a few CoreSec guys, and one suspected criminal got away. Why would the Empire care? It didn't affect whatever value the planet has to the Empire.
