Star Trek vs. Star Wars: Where Do Your Loyalties Lie?

Ah, the age-old question.....Star Trek vs. Star Wars: Which do you you prefer?
This is a VERY unscientific question I wanted to inflict upon the RPF Legions: which do you prefer, and why? I know that we love all aspects of multiple genres, but these seem to be the two biggest ones. So, I thought it would be interesting to hear which you prefer.
Now, don't be shy, but there are a few ground rules:

1. ONLY Star Trek and Star Wars! I know that we love others, and this thread fails/sucks/is stupid/etc. without the mention of '-------'!, but I'm just interested in the two Star entries.

2. Be Civil! This, of course, goes without saying.

3. Non-Canon material is allowed.
After all, it's part of the fandom, so it's included.

4. There is NO Rule Four!

5. No touching of the hair or face! (Of course!)

All set? Let's go! :)

I can't pick. It's like choosing a favorite child. Which if I had children I imagine would be difficult.

Plus I have these two websites to declare my inability to choose:
stosiris.com (my Trek webseries)

There was a time when, if I talked with any of my friends about best movies, it obviously went without saying the original Star Wars trilogy was one movie and vastly superior to everything else in every way, therefore any discussion started with what was #2.

The status of Star Wars as king of the hill has taken a few hits over the years. (Blade Runner is my favorite movie now, but I hope Episode VII will reclaim the title.) However, I still find Star Wars superior to Trek. I just can't believe society will reach that type of utopia. It's too far fetched. Deep Space 9 is a little better, at least they have latinum.

Born at the end of the 60's, I was into Planet of the Apes, Space 1999 & a bit of Doctor Who,......didn't really like Star Trek
In '77 SW came out & blew me away and the Trilogy has been my top movies ever since.....by '83 there were tonnes of Sci-Fi films, but I fell into Star Trek then to get my fix with good quality ILM Sci-Fi,....got sort of into the TV Next Gen & Spin offs......then dropped Star Trek when The Phantom Menace came out.....I actually liked TPM & couldn't wait till Episode 2,.....but I didn't enjoy AOTC or ROTS....which tainted what I did like of TPM.

Saw JJ's Star Trek films at cinema, thought they looked great apart from the brewery engineering room, but the stories were lame & I wouldn't consider adding them to my BD collection, so really Star Wars (the original versions) are my favourite, but Star Trek movies (with original cast) were there to fill the gap

My personal favourite is Star Trek; mainly because I was born at the start of the American Space Race, and was all of five years old when Trek came out. I grew up with it, so it has a special place in me heart. :D

Although, I must admit, one thing I'll always applaud George Lucas for doing, was allowing people to play in his Universe's sandbox a bit more freely than Trek's handlers ever did....

And you can watch my webseries already. I went to the Star Wars open casting call in Detroit but didn't hear anything. Oh well, there's still time. Right now I am hoping for maybe a Batman/Superman movie audition since they are filming locally and my need Under5s.

You can see my friends at the auditions filming for a youtube show and they pulled me in to help:

As some may Live long and prosper, I choose to learn the ways of the force.

I was never able to get into Star Trek the original series. I must say that The Next Generation was not that bad. As for the movies, The Wrath of Khan was ok, but, not more.

This is based on personal opinions. I'm not bashing the product at all, listen, er had Attack of the Clones lolll.

Although I have a great love for both fandoms, my loyalties lie with Star Trek. My mom was a huge fan of TOS, so when TNG first aired my brother and I were spoon fed on Picard and Data from a very young age. I'm so loyal to the franchise that I both watched and enjoyed Enterprise.

I was 4 years old when Empire Strikes Back came out and was just enthralled by the movie, characters, and story. I've been a die hard fan ever since. When I got older, I saw some of the Trek films, but it never captured my imagination like Star Wars did. Loved TNG when it came out, but Star Wars will always be where my heart is.

That is true of course, but what if you were forced into a Sophie's Choice moment and HAD to chose? It's just for fun.

Then I would have to keep Star Trek as TOS will always by my first Sci-Fi love, but I would mourn the loss of Star Wars.

Given a choice of one and only one it would be Star Trek but I enjoy both...although I am very particular about which Star Wars I choose to associate myself with.

I was born in 1965 but was raised in the middle of bum%$#@ nowhere. We only had one tv channel at it was not NBC (?) so I never got to see TOS really. I knew of it, had toys from it, and even played it on the playground, but unless I spent the night with a friend who had cable and caught a rerun of it, I never really saw it. We never even got it at our house until well after ST:TMP came out.

But Star Wars changed my life. Like nothing has ever since. It opened up my whole world. So my loyalties will always have to be with it.

But I do love Trek. The Next Generation was the first thing I ever began to record on a vcr. I could finally watch something over and over. So I've probably actually seen more Trek.

My favorite genre is Star Wars, but I have to admit I have become disappointed with it over the years. The 200+ novels I've read have their ups and downs, but most are better than a few of the movies. I tend to think of the original trilogy as one movie. So I would pick 4-6 as my first choice, 3 for 2nd place and 2 for runner-up. If they printed episode 1 on toilet paper I would definitely buy a role or two. My favorite character was originally Luke, but after the prequels came out it was clear that Anakin had a much more profound character map, and quickly became what is known as a tragic hero in classic literature. I came to love Anakin's character enough that I named my first-born son Anakin. He will be three in March... Star Trek is awesome, too, but I tend to focus on the technology of ST as well as the Utopian society. I would choose to live in the ST universe over the SW universe for those reasons. But SW is my favorite sci-fi genre, by far. :)
