Give reboot Kirk The boot!
He’s the first Captain Kirk that I’m pretty sure is still a virgin when he takes command of his ship.
Alas, my ship, whom I love like a woman is…disabled.

That is an excellent point. Definitely emasculation by retcon. Not the first time we get to meet an old hero in a new adaptation, only to see his agency completely removed. It's pretty safe to say Balance of Terror is on everyone's top five list. For many of us it's the number one episode. It is one of Kirk's finest hours.
Taking that away from Kirk and diminishing his character by casting a generic Vancouver TV extra was a terrible move.
Well, they haven’t gender-swapped TOS yet, but they’ve already ethnicity-swapped. Kyle is mysteriously Asian now.
From what I recall in The Cage, Kyle was Asian in that episode.Well, they haven’t gender-swapped TOS yet, but they’ve already ethnicity-swapped. Kyle is mysteriously Asian now.

Perhaps Kirk wasn’t the Gorn’s ’type’.I watched the original Star Trek series, yesterday, where William Shatner, of TJ Hooker fame, played a character called Captain Kirk.
At one point I thought the fight would be over when the Gorn got close enough to vomit green puke on the Kirk character and impregnate him as a meat-sack for his little Gornlings….but strangely, it didn’t happen.

In the episode I watched, It was apparent to me that Kirk was an ignorant fool and a moron who didn’t know his own history. Placed in personal combat with a Gorn captain, he kept speaking as if he had never seen one of them, let alone heard of them. Had he never cracked open a history book to know that Starfleet had long ago encountered the Gorn??

And Spock made an appearance, played by an actor named Leonard Nimoy.

This version of Spock apparently harbors a personal grudge against Captain Kirk and said NOTHING about his prior encounters with the Gorn.

Yeah, same retconning we see throughout NuTrek, and NuSW, and MCU. I just suffered through S2 of Picard (never mind why), and not only was the writing lazy, even the cinematography was phoned in. I know, we’ll just put up a bunch of anamorphic lens artifacts and light the whole thing in orange and teal! They’ll love it!
Picard S2 was insultingly lazy, whereas Strange New Hair was only comically so. It would be so nice to find a show somewhere that treats its audience like adults… oh yeah, there is one. Stranger Things S4. Dynamite show.
Regardless, it's going to be in the Enterprise's logs and Spock was there, it makes no sense that Kirk wouldn't familiarize himself with the Enterprise's logs by the time Arena rolled around. Isn't it Spock's job to brief the new captain regardless?Didn't the NuEnterprise encounter the Gorn like, two weeks ago, just before NuKirk showed up? That wasn't something worth discussing while NuPike cooked for him in his ski lodge?
