Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

It's pretty safe to say Balance of Terror is on everyone's top five list. For many of us it's the number one episode. It is one of Kirk's finest hours.

Taking that away from Kirk and diminishing his character by casting a generic Vancouver TV extra was a terrible move.

That is an excellent point. Definitely emasculation by retcon. Not the first time we get to meet an old hero in a new adaptation, only to see his agency completely removed.

I’m just surprised that it wasn’t Jamie Kirk as captain of the Farragut.

Actually, neither of the two randos at the transporter console are named in the pilot. The Asian rando never speaks (probably paid as an extra). Kyle doesn’t appear until Tomorrow is Yesterday when he makes chicken soup for the Air Force sergeant.

I watched the original Star Trek series, yesterday, where William Shatner, of TJ Hooker fame, played a character called Captain James T Kirk.

In the episode I watched, It was apparent to me that Kirk was an ignorant fool and a moron who didn’t know his own history. Placed in personal combat with a Gorn captain, he kept speaking as if he had never seen one of them, let alone heard of them. Had he never cracked open a history book to know that Starfleet had long ago encountered the Gorn??

At one point I thought the fight would be over when the Gorn got close enough to vomit green puke on the Kirk character and impregnate him as a meat-sack for his little Gornlings….but strangely, it didn’t happen.

And Spock made an appearance, played by an actor named Leonard Nimoy.

This version of Spock apparently harbors a personal grudge against Captain Kirk and said NOTHING about his prior encounters with the Gorn.

Perhaps Kirk wasn’t the Gorn’s ’type’.

Yeah, same retconning we see throughout NuTrek, and NuSW, and MCU. I just suffered through S2 of Picard (never mind why), and not only was the writing lazy, even the cinematography was phoned in. I know, we’ll just put up a bunch of anamorphic lens artifacts and light the whole thing in orange and teal! They’ll love it!

Picard S2 was insultingly lazy, whereas Strange New Hair was only comically so. It would be so nice to find a show somewhere that treats its audience like adults… oh yeah, there is one. Stranger Things S4. Dynamite show.

Didn't the NuEnterprise encounter the Gorn like, two weeks ago, just before NuKirk showed up? That wasn't something worth discussing while NuPike cooked for him in his ski lodge?

...but NuSpock most definitely will be during the second season premiere ("A C**k Time"), once he undergoes the Vulcan ritual of Kuch'old, in which his mating drive kicks into gear to determine whether or not he's a full-homosexual instead of just baseline-bi like everyone else. Vulcan males must have gay sex at least once before they undergo Pon Farr and take a spouse, in order to pre-select the gender of that spouse.

And slashfic writers will finally be vindicated as NuKirk and NuSpock consummate their sexual tension, then decide to just remain friends and co-workers.

Thanks, Alex Kurtzman!

BETTER CALL SAUL returns on Monday. Best show on TV, and a much better way to spend one's time than watching NuTREK.

Regardless, it's going to be in the Enterprise's logs and Spock was there, it makes no sense that Kirk wouldn't familiarize himself with the Enterprise's logs by the time Arena rolled around. Isn't it Spock's job to brief the new captain regardless?

Good grief, you guys are way ahead of me. I’m still laughing at those tiny little Cornish game lizards dragging away that huge Lt. Moron. Because physics. :p
