Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Against my better judgment, I watched the trailer for the musical episode.

SNW must be doing something right because we've had a lot of new people joining the TrekBBS. I can't remember the last time I noticed a large influx of newbies. Of course this is subjective, I haven't seen the data.

See, way back in the day, immediately after Christmas, people online dreaded the coming flood of the modem noobs. It was always dumb people who would invade everything and make a mess because they didn't know anything, they just wanted to pretend that they did. It took a while every year to get rid of the worst of them and keep the few actually intelligent people who were worth saving, after they learned not to act like 4-year olds with a new toy.

That's kind of been modern Trek (and Star Wars and Terminator... the list goes on and on and on).

They’re called children.

Star Trek: Strange New Musical may not be the Trek that we want… but, perhaps, it’s the Trek that we deserve?

So, coming in at 147, does this make me a super-genius to this generation?

I am really not surprised by this. Telephones do everything for everybody now. This newer generation doesn’t have to think about anything just type in a few phrases and get the immediate answer.

In my day….

Why in my day we didn’t have these “cellular phones” telling us the answers to everything and giving us access to the collective knowledge of civilization…

In my day, if we needed information we either outright made it up, made uneducated guesses, read tarot cards, inferred divination from a pile of chicken bones, or relied upon the advice of Crazy Uncle Frank to tell us what was what and who was who….

That’s the way it was—and we LIKED IT!

;)

“Sometimes you pretend something long enough…it becomes the truth”. I appreciated Babs’ performance. And happy birthday Charlie, we miss you my brother
