ST: Strange New Worlds Canceled

So SNW has done a singing episode, which Buffy did first. And they're going to do a puppet episode apparently, which Angel did first. They're just copying the Whedon-verse. Further proof that there is nothing creative about this show. Everything is derivative.
But Buffy's rose directly from the show's mythology. So did Angel's. What rational justification is there that is in-universe accurate, that makes a singing episode work for Trek? Good luck coming up with one that isn't just hand-wavium. Buffy and Angel are fantasy. Trek is not, or at least it's not supposed to be, but with modern Trek and their crappy writers, who the hell knows anymore?

Trek is based on handwavium. It's the solution to almost every problem they encounter in TNG. Let's just realign the deflector array to intercept the neutrinos from the planet's surface, that way the cellular peptide cake from the replicator can be as fresh and tasty each time!

Trek really shines when the interplay between the different personalities and skillsets leads to whatever the nonsense solution of the week is. The scifi stuff is set dressing for the characters. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but you could put Data and Picard (or Pike and Number One) into a western or a noir detective show and it would still work.

All I mean to point out is that it seems really arbitrary where the line lives between "this is nonsense I like" and "this nonsense is JUST TOO DAMN FAR"

Well, since this thread has supplanted the old SNW thread, Paramount has uploaded Space Adventure Hour for free on Youtube.

You guys are going to hate this one. But you should watch the Trek parody at the beginning, at the very least.

Community is actually great, for the most part. That puppet episode came during their worst season. At the end of season three, creator/writer Dan Harmon (who also co-created and wrote Rick and Morty) was fired as showrunner and all of season four suffered from it. He was rehired for season five, and continued though the end, though the show started losing cast members. They're in the process of making a movie which would reunite the original cast - except for Chevy Chase, who got himself fired for being...well, Chevy Chase.
Well I got through half of two different episodes. I'm sure it has its moments but it's just really not my thing. I suppose thats better than referring to it as "dreck." Live and learn.

I did enjoy the Pigs in Space style levers but the comic timing was pretty non-existant. I could deal with the weird episodes if they didn't have so FEW shows each year. A tangent episode comes across as a waste sometimes.
I will probably whip up a few of the Lever sets now for fun.
