Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

Well, It's been a couple of years since I posted, but here are a couple of close up pics of the prototype? Rubies Phaser. I'm anxious to see if it is sized & shaped closer to the real prop than the Playmates.

Unless that guy has seriously huge hands, that looks pretty undersized.

I agree compared to the image posted just before mine but it I think it looks larger when the whole image is shown. That's why i want to see it after it's released. To see if that was a prototype or the final product.

Where did you find that ? Put that down.

But in all seriousness I like it better than the playmates one.

The upper part looks pretty good (just needs to have the barrel moved back a bit) but the grip is terrible. The shape is wrong and it looks too short.

This is why I'm thinking (and hoping) this is a prototype. Other images of this orange and white phaser that aren't being held show a grip closer to the real prop. Unfortunately I've seen alot of "prototypes" over the years that looked better then the resulting retail release.

This picture looks even more like the model :lol

That is too funny.

I really like the orange part but the middle is a cylinder, not a box. There are four really good pictures of that right now.

The reviews are coming in positive so far. I'd like to see a high end prop replica for the phaser. If Master Replicas doesn't do it, maybe someone else will. Anyway, hope someone announces it soon.

They look nothing alike really. :lol

My point was that the Trek Movie phaser echoes a retro look and so does the Galaxy Quest phaser. But hey, maybe that's just me. i didn't imply they were look-alikes.:rolleyes

BTW, that Nebulizer is not a shot of the real prop. It's a buildup of the SidKit Nebulizer which isn't all that accurate (incorrect way the handle meets the body, no top light up blue fin, cast off a stunt, handle & trigger is just wrong, etc.).

This is the real "hero" Galaxy Quest screen-used Nebulizer prop that I just happen to own (see below).

Do we know when the Rubies ones are supposed to come out? I imagine it'd be too much to hope before Halloween season.....

says they have them now at buycostumes.com

EDIT: just the costumes, no accessories like the gun yet.

forgive me but 80 pages is a bit much to look through...
I just watched this last night and have a few observations about the phaser... if they've already been covered, my apologies.
I did notice that no matter which setting was selected there was a blue or red glow from the inside of the phaser barrel, easily accomplished with red and blue leds...
I also noticed that the phasers seemed to kick or recoil with each shot... anybody else agree?

I watched the movie a second time, and still can't tell for sure.

During the gunfight on the Romulan ship, when Kirk and Spock had gone over there and started shooting at the bad guys, did their phasers articulate when they shot? I got the distinct impression that something was moving on the props when they were firing. Either that, or it was just tricky lighting and cool sound effects.

Anyone else notice that, or have thoughts on it? I thought the guns were a good compromise between what could have been (e.g. all-black bullet-firing low-tech early Trek) and glossy white-and-silver Lost in Space gizmos, versus what was (a goofy '60s design with a mini phaser sitting ugly on top of the bigger phaser). :)

Come to think of it, yeah, during that phaser-fight, it did seem to me that they did sort of recoil. Maybe its just me or maybe its the stance Kirk and Spock took because they way they're standing and shooting, as if its a real 9mm handgun in there.
