Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

lol i'm not throwing anybody down, but just wait until the movies out to give judgment ya know, but everybody is entitled to there own opinions, i'm just saying that i'm a life long trek fan, and am incredibly excited about the movie and props

On that note, I just purchased my tickets for the 7pm showing on the 7th of May. They went on sale today, get em before they're gone!

For what it's worth.
I'm a long time Trekkie...who favors the Original Series...and I am really looking forward to this movie.

We'll always have what has come before...this film doesn't erase that. We can still watch all the episodes we want and all the films...
This is just another Star Trek...that's all...
More props to make and collect... more costumes to make and wear...simply, more fun.

Star Trek Lives!

The local toys r us just put them on the shelves, picked up the comm tric and phaser, like the comm, feels good in your hands, and the tric is pretty cool, its like a old style meets the compact version of a mark x

:thumbsup

well, the toys are the only way youre going to see the comm and tricorder. No beauty shots whatsover. The phaser gets some screen time but you never get a good look at either the comm or tricorder.

Well that sucks! :(

EDIT - When you guys repainted your phasers' barrels, what kind of paint did you guys use?

Here's pics. and a little review I did of the Phaser, Comm., and Tricorder :

Star Trek Phaser, Communicator, and Tricorder !

~ Possible spoilers, multiple pics. ~!

Price : Around $15 each.

I'm not realy that big of fan for Star Trek, aside from the classic series. But I can already see myself enjoying the new movie. It's just got a new appeal to me. So I picked up the new toyprops to make sure I didn't miss out on anything. lol.

The phaser is shiny. It has a moveable set of barrels, one for stun (blue), and one for kill (red). However it appears that the sceen used one only has a red barrel, a silver/metal barrel. They can be moved by hand, and when stun is set, you can press a button which switches the barrels to kill. There is also a dial in the back of the phaser, like the classic phasers. It light up when turned, and I forgot to take pics. of it...Also, unlike the original, this one has a trigger, which is to be expected. So...I realy have no idea how they'll shoot with the screen used ones. :p

The communicator comes with a handy little thing for you belt, so if you want to dork people out, you wear that with your comm. in there. The Comm. bloops and bleeps when you open it, and it reminds me of some sort of wimpering space dog. It's an odd noise, thats for sure. It light up in 3 places, and can say two phrases, one from Spock, and one from Kirk. However, they're asking to be beamed aboard ship. So it's like talking to someone that also wants to be beamed aboard. In my mind, they should proboly have recorded phrases responding to your asking to be beamed aboard. Such as :

"Can't right now, Scottys in the john!"
or
"Aye, Wolverine broke the watchya-ma-call-it!"
or even
"PRICELINE NEGO-TI-A-TOR!"

The Tricorder is my least favorite. It however has the most lights, and I like things that light up. Its also shiny, so its like they made the thing for me. The stickers are my only beef, I'm thinking someone should come up with a mod. kit for it before long.....

I'd like to replace the lights in the toy phaser with sparkling superbrite LED's on the nozzle and a diffuse light under the power on dial area. Anyone here with electrical knowledge to suggest replacement LED's for the toy phaser?

Also, anyone know if Master Replicas will be releasing the phaser? I kinda like this phaser. reminds me of my Galaxy Quest Nebulizer.

I'm disappointed that this Trek strays into another universe, but for a space FX movie it'll be fun. I just don't consider it the Trek I know, maybe I'll change my mind when I see it though.

Swung by Target today where they had all three role play items. In person the Phaser looks much nicer, and the Tric looks much smaller. The Communicator, on the other hand, is disgusting. How they turned such a wonderful design as the Wah Chang Comm into a drab, uninspired and ugly piece of plastic is mind boggling.

And $25 for the incomplete bridge playset is extortion, the old TNG set actually had some substance to it even if it wasn't totally accurate.

I really hope they do, but you'd think we'd have heard something by now. Sadly, it seems like things aren't going so great with the company, so who knows what's up...

I know I'd be first in line for a high-end accurate replica of the phaser, be it from MR or another prop company---as long as it's done well. :)
