Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

Hey now... wait a minute. That doesn't suck quite so much! :lol

The prop has got a few subtler angles... it's not so tall and boxy, for one thing. Not bumper chrome, either. And no blue "stun" barrel.

HMMMMMMMMM. I may have to buy the Master Replicas one after all. :cry

No, it's for zero-attention span pin heads that need everything spoon fed to them.

You know, their target audience.

...and of course. It makes a swell toy.

:lol Well, I was trying to be diplomatic but....yeah, I can't say I disagree.

On the other hand, it proves that Playmates is back on the job, taking everything cool and making it stupid. :lol

I must say this...At least it doesn't have Phaser printed on it. That we can see at least.

what about the on the other side of the phaser?:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

But I'm liking it. Definitely sleeker than the toy version, and I love the finish/color of it. :) But I don't like the red nozzle :cry

You're also looking at the object from two different angles, one from slightly above and one from slightly below. Suprisingly, it looks like, with exception of the finish, the toy replicates the prop fairly well...Although, in this case I don't know if that's a good thing.

Although, you may be right. It looks like the prop is slightly longer overall and that the top is shallower? Is that a word? :confused

It does; the major things that jump out at me as different (aside from the finish and barrels) is that the finial on the end of the toy handle is less prominent, and the real phaser has a simple (and better looking) inset for the thumb where the side button is, rather than the over-elaborate, almost Starfleet Delta-looking feature on the toy.

Still, some rubbing with steel wool, a bit of dullcote and weathering, plus replacement barrels and I suspect the toy will be an acceptable prop replica. We cna only hope the comm and tric clean up as well.

Agreed.

This is a refrain we'll be hearing a lot once Trek XI hits theaters.

You hope.

I dunno, photo angle might explain some of it, but look carefully at the curve of the top of the hood, and the angle of the "jaws" in front. The prop is subtler.

Also where the grip meets the body. There's no "arrowhead" shape that folks were worried was intentional. Also the safety button, or whatever it is button, is in a different place.

Also look at the cutout shape where the "barrel" points back into the body.

The prop looks sleeker in general. I'd think the toy would require a lot of work.

k

And since there is a thumbwheel on the back, that's where the P1 slides out of ????
(God lets hope not).....:eek
