Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

Man I wish that any one lived near me. Holding this thing in your hand is really cool. I think when the licensed props are made available, lots of people are going to change their minds about how they feel about this design. I'm seriously falling in love with this thing.

I think this will end up being a lot of peoples favorite once they get to handle it.

That looks awesome. Great work bud :)

Darn it you beat me to it, I'm still waiting on my damned materials, the postal service of the UK is most illogical

I did the same thing with the last three rds :)
Now teh Iraquis LOVE THEM some tracer rds....we called those the 'wedding specials'. Thursdays in Baghdad was generally wedding day which meant morons celebrating by firing in to the air with the pretty pretty tracer rds. Apparently nobody explained gravity :) The night of the Iraqi Olympic soccer victory over Australia it looked like Star Wars. I was running commo that night at teh check point and I had rds coming through my corrugated makeshift roof (I was under the makeshift desk on the radio) :)
OK, back on topic. Color coded phaser nozzles make bluffing more difficult.
"Stop. or Ill have to disintegrate you!"
"Dude, your phaser is set on blue nozzle...Im so not scared!"

Not to hijack the thread but we did this and is it taught as a tactic in the USMC. I myself did the whole mag of tracer for just as you are saying, cut off or too much crap going down to communicate with my men effectively via voice or hand. The tape was for me. As you know, the fog of war you need all the help you can get sometimes even knowing where your own gear is. I also had the last three shots in every mag as tracer as a visual reference for me that it was time to get a new one.

OK that's like very close to six hours on now. I'm going to leave it alone until tomorrow. I'll be filling all the holes with acrylic latex caulk and then I'll be waiting for 24.

Oh thank you so much, but at this point I really shouldn't be receiving any more encouragement. I've completely high jacked this thread and I feel like a real jerk for doing it but I just can't help myself.

I'm not going to post any more until this thing is ready for serious scrutiny.

This is where the whole thing of stating opinion as fact comes to a head. There is a world of difference between saying, "Star Trek 17 SUCKED!" and saying "I think Star Trek 17 SUCKED!"

The first statement is stating an opinion as fact, and is insulting to those who may have liked the film.

The second is an expression of personal opinion only. Much more friendly.

Personally, I will wait until viewing ST 17 before I render my opinion on whether or not it 'sucked.'

At the rate we're going that should be in about 12 to 15 years.

And with the latest string of scenes will come more and more complaints.

Personally, I can't wait for this film, and I'll be willing to predict that this will be the most successful (boxoffice wise) Trek film ever. I know SO MANY people who are absolutely NOT fans of Star Trek that have told me they can't wait to see this movie.

Agreed, may not look like the Trek I fell in love with but I will reserve any judgement until I see the film. I can't wait and I will be there on opening night.

For those of you who have serious concerns about the new movie based on what's been released thus far (photos of props, costumes, shops, etc.) -- I would ask you to read the JJ Abrahms review in LA TIMES -- you can access part one here, with link to part two on same article:

http://trekmovie.com/2009/01/29/jj-abrams-talks-trek-humor-trek-purists-and-more/

After reading this, it truly seems like JJ is trying to capture the SOUL of Star Trek, and while it may look a little different, it sounds like it will still FEEL like the old Star Trek we love.
