Star Destroyer #3

Is this for real? I've been building scifi kits for 10 years but this makes me look like a schmuck! I'm not worthy! I love the RPF!

So close to the finish line.

There are still some parts I am missing, but thanks to Jason Wright that will be taken care of soon, thank you, Jason!!!

In these photos, the superstructure and L'Eggs eggs are not yet attached, so please excuse the tissue paper stuffed in the eggs to hold them in place for these pictures.

Enjoy...

Wow Rick! If you have never posted the WIP pictures and just showed us your finished build, I think you would have a hard time convincing us that this is not the original ILM model. :thumbsup

That's quite a compliment! Thank you, Randy!

Fantastic build Ringa,

I am in awe of the job you have done.

One question, what parts did you use for the gun turrets?

I am building a smaller scale version and an stuck on the shape of these...

They look a little like sherman or KV1 tank turrets or maybe T34 / 85 turrets to me???

Cheers,

Jase.

AFAIK, they used Sherman M4A3E8 turrets (1/72 Hasegawa kit) for 3 of the laser turrets on each side.

Firstly Rick, you already know I think that model is all kinds cool, and it just keeps getting cooler.

But now these composites are just mind-blowingly incredible. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!!

PS: Lotsa love for how well you matched the forced perspective on that baby, too. Can't stop looking at it. I need the hi-res versions for my desktops!

Each photo looks fantastic and especially this one looks like it's right out of the film. What an outstanding work!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I'm really glad you are enjoying these composite photos! To me, the most fun about building a studio scale model is to bring it in the studio.

Each shot is a scene out of the movies, but from a different point of view, except the last one, which is from the opening of Empire. I wanted to see what that scene would look like as if the 8-footer had never been built. My favorite shot is the one with the Blockade Runner. In order to make it look like the movie, I had to create laser blasts in PhotoShop (that was fun).

The success of this build not only depends on accurate proportions and attention to detail, but also on how well it photographs. I'm pleased with it so far, and it's not finished yet. Have to wait for some very rare parts to complete this model.
