Here's another comparison photo. With the antenna up it is easier to see the similarities.
This, and the other comparison shots posted on this thread, give me (as the builder) such a sense of satisfaction. After two earlier attempts, which became very valuable learning experiences, I feel I've made the replica of my dreams. This model has exceeded my hopes.
Since 1979 when I got my first replica––the Kenner diecast Imperial Cruiser–– to the disappointing model kit that followed, to the very bad cardboard model I made back then, through my first two replicas––though inaccurate, were success stories––the journey ends with this new replica!
I want to thank all those who helped me along the way!
Thank you Lee for generously donating the brass channels that I could not find enough of here!
Thanks to Jason Wright, who also generously supplied very rare and hard to find pieces! My model is so much better because of you!
Thank you Charles Adams for your support, for helping me identify the first kit pieces way back in 2008 when I began this project. And for your hard work in creating patterns based on our collective dimensions!
Thanks to Eric and Julien! Your projects have been a source of GREAT inspiration to me. They challenged me to build a third replica, and to do it right this time!
A special thanks goes out to Lorne Peterson, who answered more questions about the original filming model than he probably ever got at one time!
Thank you to the guys at WonderFest, Jason, Kevin, Sean, Quincy, Mike for inviting me to add my partially completed model in your display that allowed Lorne to see it in the first place!
Thank you to all those who posted here with your comments and compliments! It means a lot when your peers salute your hard work!
And, of course, THANK YOU to my wonderful wife for her love and patience, who missed me all the days and hours I spent in the shop building this model!
It's still not completely finished, not until I receive the final, missing pieces. But I have time. I'm looking forward to displaying this model at WonderFest 2012!
