Standard Hasbro Millenium Falcon - any conversions?

Has anybody tried to mod a standard Hasbro Falcon to something a little more accurate? I've seen a few SAGA versions with upgrades and repaints, but never the standard edition, as far as I remember.

Are the old sculpt versions just not worth the effort for a partial rebuild and repaint? I'm not talking about anything screen accurate here, just an improvement on the standard piece.

If you are referring to the original Kenner MF and the later Hasbro MF they are just not worth the effort as the details are flat and inaccurate.

The more recent version from Hasbro, known as the BMF (Big Millennium Falcon) is the better one to attempt a mod/conversion. The BMF is based on the 32in Falcon made for TESB and is approximately 31 inches in length, making it almost studio scale.

Additionally, the design of the BMF has also been taken from the Fine Molds 1/72 Millennium Falcon. As such the detail on the BMF has better definition and more film accurate since it has been lifted from the FM kit.

Yes, there are still some oversized elements on the BMF, afterall it IS only a toy, but nothing that a good modeler can't fix. IMO the BMF is the one to get.

The main thing about the Kenner Falcon is it is VERY fat and the cockpit section is WAY oversized relative to the rest of the ship. I suppose it could be chopped up, but the result wouldn't work with SW action figures anymore.

A portion of a Kenner falcon did end up as a greeblie bit on the back wall of the "Satellite of Love" set for a few seasons of Mystery Science Theater 3000 though (but they rarely ever showed it).

I know this is an old post, but I went about this undertaking and am pleased with how its come out so far. I'm still in the middle of painting. I need to weather it and add some rust.

I cut out the cockpit and made my own utilizing the top hatch of the old Kenner Falcon. It worked pretty good too. Thanks for the idea crackerjazz.

Overall. I replaced the guns, cockpit, raised the landing pads, thinned out the jaws, and added a lot of detail including: pipe, cockpit detail, and painting. I know the actual falcon sidewalls are not as tall, but that was an undertaking I did not have the time or patience for. Plus, the height doesn't really bother me. It's not like some of the Falcon models out there. Overall the lighting and sounds still work, boarding ramp, and landing gear.

I know you weren't aiming studio scale accuracy as far as details go but that turned out really nice. You did a great job on it. Well done.

nice work kokkari,i just started my hasbro conversion a week ago.i've spent the last 7 nights just doing nothing but dremel cutting, sawing and filing for 7 nights straight and i'm still going. :eek

I know how you feel. The dremmel cutting is the worst! Well that and the sanding. My wife kept asking "what the hell i was doing to the poor thing". Keep your parts. You would be surprised what you can reuse when you start putting it back together. Making the cockpit is the fun part. I blew up a photo of the 5ft ANH falcon top view to the size of the Hasbro. It worked really well to get proportions and placement of the cockpit. Look at crackerjazz's build. He did the same thing and has photos.

your right about the dremel cutting.very noisy and messy.yeah,i been checking out crackerjazz's build and a few others as well.all very helpful.

I used a razor saw to cut the landing gear boxes off mine. There was so much less cleaning up to do afterwards. I've been using CJ's thread to post updates on mine but the next few months are extremely busy for me and work has been side lined.

Here is an updated photo of my progress. I still have some more blast marks and decals to add of various details too small to paint, but it's coming along. 31" OF PURE VIEWING PLEASURE!

looking good mate.i only finished cutting mine up 2 days ago.i've trimmed all the sides, landing bays and cut away the cockpit and passage way and the mechanical access panels.i quickly taped it together and was pleasantly surprised to see how nice it looks.having a break from it for a few days and then will start on some detailing.

That is really impressive. I have my vintage falcon but unfortunately not the cockpit canopy, I do have the original cannon though.

Was curious how much work was involved fitting the vintage cannon and canopy. I'm a long time collector but just getting into customizing so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and again, great job on the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.
