Standard Hasbro Millenium Falcon - any conversions?

I don't think it was too tough. This was my first attempt at trying something like this. I haven't worked with models since I was a kid, but I am an artist by trade. I found the vintage canons and cockpit off ebay. Just search millennium falcon parts. I realized that the vintage canon is pretty close to correct, but just mounted upside down for some reason on the original vintage toy. I re-used the canon mounts from the legacy falcon and added a couple of extra styrene parts to the gun, I just cut the height way down. (see attached image) I know not totally screen accurate, but way better than the original. As far as the cockpit, that was more difficult. I tried to find pvc piping that was the correct diameter, but had no luck. I ended up using a very thick mailing tube and styrene for the armor plating. The picture shows a piece of cardboard I used to fit the right size of the lower cockpit before I cut it out of styrene. I'm still trying to figure out what to use for the vent material that goes around the circumference of the cockpit. I'll keep my eyes open. When I look at pictures of the original cockpit it makes me laugh at how ridiculously big it was.

I've been working on a new Hasbro conversion and so far I'm much happier with the results. I have a lot of painting left, including streaks, rust, etc... This time I was going for more of a prop replica accurate version. The first thing I did was thin out the side walls (which drove me crazy that I didn't do last time). I cast many parts using molds from my master replica falcon and this time made a cockpit from scratch. I did a lot of my own lighting this time including cockpit mandible, and engine lights while keeping some of the original sounds from the toy. Not done yet, but tell me what you think.

WOW - my first thought was "...that's no Hasbro..." ;) It looks outstanding.

So, PLEASE show us some "making of" pictures of the conversion process.
You're one of the best Hasbro Toy modder that I know :thumbsup thanks a lot for sharing

Thanks Homecine. Here are some early pics. I was anxious to start even before I got my hands on a Hasbro Falcon off Craigslist. I started off with an oil funnel that fit perfect for the nose cone of the cockpit once I cut it down. I then added some styrene for the cross bars and armor plating. (photo is of the ruff before sanded version) I then started fitting it with some 3" mail tubing.

After I cut down the sidewalls, mandible height, cut out the cockpit/landing pads, and gutted the Falcon I started finagling the mandibles so they turned in. See below. ( You can also see the beginnings of the new upper gun turret.)

I then added inner support using plumbing parts I found at the hardware store then cut down to fit inside. This was also to become the support to mount the Falcon on a stand.

Pictured Below, you can see the restructured upper gun turret using the original gun mount from the Hasbro cut down to size.

I'll post more tomorrow.

Many thanks for the "making of" informations - unfortunately the pictures/ attachments of your last post doesn't work.
It would be great if you can repost them. :)

I can not believe some of the work in this thread. amazing stuff guys.

At some point in my life I'm gonna find the time/space to really enter this whole thing.

I'm not sure why the images disappeared. They were there, but I reattached them. :D
Now I can see them :) thanks a lot.

It would be great if you can post some pictures how you have done the "new" sidewalls, cockpit-tube, the short new "side-Tubes" and
from the underside of the (nearly) finished model. Thanks in advance and again ;) it's so impressive what you've done with the BMF...!!! :thumbsup

Here is what I have as for pictures of the side walls I made molds of some pieces such as the car transmission parts, but for the most part I reused the ones from the original toy. It is surprisingly accurate, just out of proportion. I sanded off the base plate they were mounted to and glued them on individually. Not perfect but pretty good.

As for the cockpit tubes I just used 3" mailing tubes and mounted armor plates and details to it. I only have the one picture of the construction of this in the previous post. They are very strong and light. I mounted the tube to the hull by cutting a slit in the end of the tube and sliding it onto a plastic plate I mounted under the the top of the hull. Then I reenforced it with other pieces inside.

Hey kokkari great looking build! For the oil funnel did it just fit or did you have to cut it down to 3"? What is the overall length of the filter and smaller diameter?

Thanks. I would say the hardest part was finding an oil funnel with the right shape. I don't remember the dimensions, but it was short and stubby. I had bought a few and tried them out before I happened to find this one already in my garage. I did measure the fat end out at 3" and then took the length off the master replica version which was about 2 1/2 inches. (cone only) Sorry, I know, not much help.

Thanks Kokkari. Wow only 2 1/2 inches i thought it was a little longer but that could be why Im not getting my shape quite right I will have to go pick up a few funnels and mess around with them a bit. Did u scratch build those front boxes between the mandibles or just cut down the one on the toy?

Just keep in mind the 2 1/2 inches is the cone only where it starts tapering down. I just cut down the boxes and used the toy version.

Working on the cockpit console. Have to make the steering yokes and smooth out some of the ruff edges, but almost done.

Anyone know where I can find ruffly 1/40 Han and Chewie to put in the cockpit?
