Spider-Man pattern size issues and zipper location

You can resize forever, and it'll have to be a leap of faith on your part (and to get advice from those that took the plunge). I'm your height and sized the file to 28 and it worked out great and fits like a glove; although I'll caveat that you also have to keep in mind your chest, biceps, shoulders, and waist too. If you have a lean build, you should be okay with resizing the file from bottom of the belt to the center of the mask. IMO, better to get a tight fit than loose and baggy.

Alright, well i'm a pretty scrawny fellow, very lean individual with not so much muscle (if any). Although, I do plan on trying to get a little more fit; water polo hasn't necessarily given me any muscle besides calve and thigh muscle, but my arms are in general kind of small, so hopefully a months work out will be enough to at least give me a little definition in tie for halloween so I can rock this costume. I'll go with your sizing of 28, I trust your experience rather than my guess. Thank you, and i'll let you along with everyone else looking at this thread how it goes. Who knows, I might even make a thread for the steps I went to in order to make the suit.

I'm just about the same height as you and I'm working on my first suit now (from Orhadar's Superior pattern). When you say you downsized about an inch, are you talking about the mask-to-belt measurement that everyone seems to go by or are you talking about just reducing the image height as a whole? Your post previous to this one has me somewhat confused as to what resize you're referencing. When doing my resizing for height I basically used @TheNickFox 's method and measured from about 1/4 of the way down the mask to the heel and worked that to ~90% of my height. I think I had to resize the image down about 5" overall. The mask-to-belt measurement went from 29" to juuuust about 28" (it's like 27.8" or so).

Any advice on this would be very much appreciated, and hopefully I'll have some figures and results to contribute to the thread soon. Thanks in advance.

Scaled down mask to belt measurement to 28 from 29. I would not go any smaller then that.and if anything I could even wear at least .5 inch bigger.

Don't stress out about it too much.If you are off by a small amount it won't matter to much given the stretch in the spandex (150%/100% when measured on the fabricondemand fabric sample). The main concern is height and even that has a little flexibility in it and isn't going to make the suit unwearable if you are off by .5 of an inch.

I second what peterparker has said. I had 2 suits done originally and they were printed at the standard size - I'm just under 6'1 and they didn't even come close to fitting me. I had to upsize my files on my new suits and they fit just fine :)

Both of mine have hidden zippers up the back to the base of my neck and then a second smaller one that runs down the back of the mask to the base of my neck. I haven't tried a u zipper so I can't give you a comfort comparison.

How do u resize the file parts to the length an width u need to fit u

I'm posting this in the hopes that it will help others.

I resized my Orhadar print from the default of 27" to 28". I'm 6'1" so I wanted to be sure the suit would fit.

It doesn't fit. It's about 2 inches short in the legs and tight as hell on the arms and torso. I'm 6'1", 150 lbs. I'm not a big guy! The suit shouldn't be this small.

FYI, print is from Fabric on Demand.

Can some one guide me sizing my file
Thank you Peter Parker for confirming my fears! I wasnt sure if it was just me, or maybe others had the same issues here. I'll PM you now about the size issue.
As for the zipper, was it a hidden zipper? What color zipper did you use?

YIKES! You are absolutely right! I just measured that line and it came to 27.44"! NOT 29"!
So how can I size this file larger without it becoming a blurry mess?

I'm 5,9 or6 but i have long legs long arms an short tourso what do i do
HIGHLY recommend you take a very close look at your file in Photoshop.... measure from the middle of the circle between the eyes down to the bottom of the belt. That measurement should be 29" in Orhadar's "normal" file. My "normal" file was not that large.. only barely 27.5". I didn't catch the fact that he sent me a smaller than "normal" file... I had it printed and sewn, and then had to sell it since it didn't fit me at 5'9.5" and 170 pounds.

I then purchased a suit that was owned by a few other RPF members... it was an Orhadar "normal" size print. It has a center spine zipper (the most roomy type of zipper to use) and it barely fits me (see my measurements above)... I have a thread about it with just a couple of photos so far... http://www.therpf.com/f78/amazing-s...-redtogusas-el-fetts-mods-208171/#post3232978

I highly recommend you bump up the size of your costume file.

Zippers... my suit in that thread has a center spine zipper, from the base of the neck down to just below the bottom of the back belt (I also have a zipper down the back of the head, from the top of the head meeting the spine zipper at the base of my neck). This is the most comfortable zipper configuration. If you want the best zipper to zip by yourself, that's the U-shape zipper. The downside to using the U zipper is that it will eventually malfunction and need to be replaced.... zippers aren't made to go around sharp 90 degree bends!

I have an idea of how to zip my center spine suit by myself... attach a paper clip "hook" to a long piece of strong string or fishing line... use the "hook" in the eyelet of the zipper pull... should be able to pull the zipper up and down if the suit is not too super tight of a fit.

If you want to compare the measurements of your file PM me and we can talk more about that.

Exact same problem here! First time I did my suit, I never thought about resizing it (as I thought 5'9 - 6'1 would be good enough...wrong). I resized it this time to about 32" so lets hope all is well!

I think a problem with my suit size is the fabric itself. I printed it at Fabric on Demand. Their 4-way stretch spandex is thick. Thicker than any spandex I've encountered. As a result, it doesn't stretch as much as thinner spandex. That could be a reason why my suit doesn't fit.

Looking for some advice/second opinions before I send my re-sized file to Fabric on Demand. So I am about 6'4" and re-sized my "eye to bottom of the belt" measurement to about 35 inches. Any other tall spideys have any advice or confirmation on that sizing? Thanks ahead of time!

Sorry to jump on this as well but I also have a similar question. I have a Sonjou file which looks like it is set to 31 inches from middle of mask to bottom of waist, which should fit me at 5'10.5", but I am rather muscular with a 41" chest and 15.5" biceps. Should I size up to 33 inches, maybe widen the pattern horizontally a bit to give me more room? Again, just want to be sure before sending off to FOD.

What about skinny short torso an long and an legs
So I am currently working on my second Spidey suit (ASM 2) and more questions keep popping up in my head.
For those of you who have been doing this longer than I, have you had any issues with printing?
What I mean is when you got it back from the printer did it fit you? I just recieved my ASM 2 pattern from Orhadar, and it is suppose to fit guys between 5' 9" and 6' 1" :
That is a WIDE range! That is a four inch stretch! So my question is: do these patterns fit a 5' 9" build better than a guy who is 6' 0" (Which is what I am).
I'm about to send my pattern to FOD for printing and I am just concerned that it may be too tight of a fit for me (I am 6' 0" and 175 lbs). Should I size the pattern larger? And if so by how much? Or should I just send the print off and not worry because it will fit fine?
I dont want the suit to be so tight that it is all stretched out and all you see are white patches everywhere.

Second question (And maybe a whole new thread): Where did you put your zippers on your suits. I have seen MANY variations and now I am confused as to which set up works best. I have seen across from shoulder to shoulder, up the middle of the back, and down the sides and across the back belt line (U shaped).
Which one is the easiest to get in and out of? Which one is the easiest to get in and out of by yourself?

Thanks everyone for your input!
