Spider-Man pattern size issues and zipper location

So I finally got my suit back! I used a U-Zip style and re-sized the comic style Orhadar by two inches for width since I have a bit broader shoulders than my waist, but I did not adjust for height. I am 6 feet tall. Here is what I have learned. The suit fits, BUT the mask doesn't stay in place very well. If I bend my head downward, the mask will pull back and the center of the mask moves up my face. This may be normal, and it may not. I'm not quite sure. If I bend at the body to look down instead of the neck, all is fine. That's better to do anyway due to the limited field of vision you have while wearing the mask. However, I would say for anyone that IS 6 feet tall or more, adjust the height of the file by 2 inches, possibly more depending on how much taller than 6 feet you are. My suit is certainly wearable, and I love it, but it's just a hair snug on the back of the neck where the mask zipper is, and I think if i would have made the suit taller, I don't think it would be as tight. The second thing I wanted to mention is the seam at the U-Zip does bunch up a bit when it is not pulled tight. I was informed that this happens because the suit is stretching but the zipper is not which is normal and usually the zippers will break in and form to the body a bit more if you wear it frequently. Again, not a big deal. Soooo happy with the suit. Trophy Wife did a phenomenal job and I will certainly be using her services again. Here are some photos. Thanks for sharing this info man, it's really helpful. I'm pretty much the exact same height and build to you, am using the same Orhadar comic style file and will be having a U-Zip as opposed to 1 long zip. So although everyone's posts on this thread are helpful, having someone my size trying to figure it out helps loads!
I'll deff adjust the height aswell in that case. Despite the little snags though, your suit looks awesome on you dude! Congrats

The center of the mask will move to your forehead bc. of the mask zip, having the same thing ATM lol.

Zippers... my suit in that thread has a center spine zipper, from the base of the neck down to just below the bottom of the back belt (I also have a zipper down the back of the head, from the top of the head meeting the spine zipper at the base of my neck). This is the most comfortable zipper configuration. If you want the best zipper to zip by yourself, that's the U-shape zipper. The downside to using the U zipper is that it will eventually malfunction and need to be replaced.... zippers aren't made to go around sharp 90 degree bends!

.

Is it possible fora horizontal zipper at the waist line instead of a U-shape zipper to avoid malfunction?

Any suggestions on crotch zipper for quick break?

Possible for diagonal zipper for TASM2 pattern? How about the Raimi pattern?

So I got my suit in and it fits perfectly. It's an Orhadar Print I sized up in both width and length. The 27" from middle mask to belt I sized up to about 31". I'm exactly 6 feet. I think if I didn't resize it, it would have indeed been way too small. View attachment 324727
Here is a picture of me with the suit quickly put on. Even the back zipper and mask zipper aren't causing any problems.

Looking great! Quick question, where should your belly button be when you wear the suit? I'm trying to firure out how much I should resize the pattern :D

Maybe I missed something... he didn't mention having a mask zipper...???

I guess you could have two vertical zippers (along the sides) and then a horizontal zipper across the lower back. Not a tailor so I don't know how well that would work out.

yeah i do think you have missed something, because he did.
you can find it somewhere in the middle '...My suit is certainly wearable, and I love it, but it's just a hair snug on the back of the neck where the mask zipper is, and I think if i would have made the suit taller, I don't think it would be as tight...'

Thanks... yes I sure did miss that in the middle of his description.

I have a mask zip and haven't notice any problems with the mask being pulled up and back. I guess it depends on how long the mask zip is and other factors.

no problem haha, yeah that it one of the things why the mask being pulled back.
that's why i have sent my suit back to TrophyWife so she could make it a removeable mask, should take away the tension. So i hope it works haha, after all she is a super talenten seamstress! :)

The suit doesn't really have many seems that are in a good place to relieve yourself. Any zippers down the lower sides are going to be additional lines in the suit. You might be able to go down the buttocks and down one of the legs. Then If you have a U-zipper you undo the buttocks zipper and 2 sides of the U and create a buttflap of sorts. It would still be a huge pain though.

Going back to sizing I was looking at the pattern last night and there are 3 measurements you can get from the pattern that are pretty easy to measure on a person. You can get a base of the neck to crotch seem measurement, a chest measurement and a waist measurement. I have marked these on the picture below:

View attachment 328561

On the default suit pattern (with the 29" measurement of crotch to center mask) the suit has a 32" chest, a 24" waist and a 25.5" crotch to neck measurements.

You should be able to compare these measurements to your own measurements to find out what percentage the suit will be stretched across your body. Take these measurements again with you body bent forward and backward to find out how much it will be stretched in different positions. If you get a sample swatch of the fabric you are going to use (everywhere, including fabricondemand offers these) you can then find the maximum stretch in each direction on your specific spandex. Then scale the image so that the spandex will stay between about 20% and 85% of it's maximum stretch. I am pretty sure this should provide much more accurate sizing. If nothing else I am plan on doing it when I order my suit and I will report back on how it works.

Guys I need some help... I'm currently racking my brains in Photoshop trying to resize my file...
I've measured the centre of the mask to the bottom of the belt and it's 29"
I then go into image size and change the height of the file which is 108.111 by 2", to 110.
But then the line I've drawn then only goes to like 29.536...
I suck at maths but this is totally confusing me!
Why when I resize the whole file by 2 inches does the line I've drawn only change by about half an inch?
Any help would be hugely appreciated. I'm with my buddy who's good with PS and he's stumped!

An easier method would be to create a line the right length on a separate layer and scale the file up manually.

If you're not using Photoshop though, then yeah, trial and error.

You might want to be careful if the file contains other parts of the suit as you might end up with them being the wrong size. Best to have the head on its own if that's the case.

Thanks man =]. I kinda see how I was being stupid now. Obviously the whole image changing by 2" isn't gonna change that small section by 2". But like I said, I suck at maths aha.
I've now got the section to 31". I'm still anxious as to whether that's going to fit me but I guess everyone takes that risk.
Mannnn this is stressful [emoji16]

Just a thought that I haven't seen addressed on any post I've read...
So the generic size of these files between the centre of the mask to the bottom of the belt is 29", this is supposed to fit someone between 5'9 and 6'1. As we all know, this is quite a big margin, but the majority of the people who have resized and had the suit fit, seem to resize as if the suit is 5'9.
Now, it may seem too simple, and stay with me here, but does this mean that the resizing guide should be that the last number in the mask to belt measurement should match the number of inches in your height...?
For example
29" = 5'9
30" = 5'10
31" = 5'11
32" = 6' (or 5'12, just to follow the pattern)
And so on....
I might be way off here, and I know that the basic rule is that one size doesn't fit all, but just thought I'd put this theory out there. Cheers

Hey guys, I want to know if I'm resizing correctly. I'm just under 6'0 and I'm 158 pounds and these are my measurements. I'm using Ordahar's dark pattern btw. Sorry for the bad quality :/ I already sent a PM to Wezzulus but I'd like to hear what you guys think as well
