Spider-Man pattern size issues and zipper location

I had the same issue with Orhadar's classic Superior file. It printed without modification and its too small. 5'11. I have his comic spidey file and it printed at the perfect size.
when I told him about the sizing issue he refused to admit there was any problem and thought maybe FOD had tampered with it, which they did not.

Exactly Luna! You hit the nail on the head and the reason for this thread.
One size does not fit all! BUT I would like to try and help out future spiders and at least create a chart that shows type of pattern used vs height and weight. That way people don't send off their patterns blindly for hundreds of dollars, wait two weeks and get back something they can't use at all.

Custom patterns is the way to go if you can. I'm fairly proficient in Photoshop but no clue when it comes to pattern sizing. I did do a general resizing on mine and praying my amazing seamstress can work her magic on proper fitting next!

I greatly appreciate everyone's input so far and hope to get more feedback and dimensions from people as well.
Right I forgot telling you how tall I was and my weight. I'm 6 feet and about 167 lbs. And I'm using the Orhadar darker red pattern. The more I read posts in here the more worried I become my print will still be wrong. Hope to have the print in with a few weeks, at least then I'll know how close or far off I came.

Hey guys. Good news from Or Hadar! I just got an email from him this morning that the ASM2 suit should be at 27" and not 29" like his sizing guide suggests. His exact words were:

"Hey, It's ok! the suit is already fited it's 27" cause on ther ASM2 print there is no point in the belt like the comics spidey, but they are the same size."

Took my suit to the local seamstress and they will get back to me as to whether they want to take on this project since they have never done anything like this before. Good luck to all.

Apparently though when you read trough this thread, there are Orhadar files of asm2 as well that do have the 29" to the belt. And another person printed the standard one and it wouldn't fit at 5.9" or something. It's the second post in the thread by Peterparker that explains this. I don't know what's true or not though.

Thanks Wezzulus. I'm not sure what's true or not also. I guess I just have to take a gamble and hope for the best. I'm 5'11" and will give an update once my suit is completed.

That's great, hope it will turn out well for you. :) And it will be fantastic to know how it went. I'm sure Coulson will be happy with that as well.

If you are 5' 11" then you will need to enlarge the pattern. It will not fit you as is (unless you are like 100 lbs!).
And this belt issue is false. What I mean is people are saying that the Spidey patterns belt with the point is TWO inches longer? FALSE!
Ive measured these patterns and they are less than one inch difference.

I'll post photos up later today.

The zipper for the suit was actually in several places including down the spine and at the side of the body, covered by the arms and arm pit. As I'm sure you're aware there's a certain kind of zip called something like a invisible zip, that makes it pretty unnoticeable, that said in certain scenes in the film you can spot it.

Thanks Angent Coulson. At this point, I'm just taking a gamble because I already spent $65 for Or Hadar's file and $160 from Fabric on Demand. I didn't get an accurate quote from my local seamstress yet but if it's not too much I'm going to have it sewn together to see the fitting. I'm not going to puffy paint the suit since it may not fit. On the bright side, I'll be able to let the forum know the difference between a 27.4" ASM2 file and a 29" file. I hope to provide an update shortly.

I see you're from Jersey. Where is your local seamstress? I've had trouble looking for a trustworthy one as I don't know if they'll line the webs properly.

I just called to follow up with my seamstress in Metuchen NJ and he said the heavy duty machinery on the premise can not line up the webbing since it is lycra and he doesn't want to ruin my suit. The place I went to is called George's but I'm going to try 2 other places in town to see if they will take the bait. If not, it's off to Trophywife! I just wanted someone local because they can take measurements and make adjustments on the fly.

Ok here we go kids! So here we have Exhibit A: On the left the $65 Orhadar TASM 2 file printed to scale on paper (The banding you see in the color is due to the fact I printed it in eco mode so to save ink). When measured it comes to 27.4" . To the right is the Ebay bootleg that I requested scaled to my size ( 6' 0") and it came to (Drum roll please) 29"!

Here is a closer look at how these two patterns size up with each other:

And just for fun I thought I would compare my original zentai Spidey suit (Dont laugh! I know most of you had one of these at one point at as well!) and guess what?
It was just a little larger in size than the Ebay bootleg.

Even my puppy agrees: This sizing thing is a pile of poo! (Yes, he is wearing a SHIELD tag!)

More info to come so stay tuned boys and girls!!! :cool:thumbsup

I live 15 minutes away. Yeah I feel uneasy about giving the suit to anyone but TW. But I think I'll save the money and try it myself. I started cutting out the pieces of my suit and outlined the back. Gonna hand sew then go through with the sewing machine.

If you guys wouldn't mind please let us know how it fits once sewn together. If it's too small or too big let us know.

So i finally got my suit back from trophy wife. It feels great and the right size! Im 5'11 and had scaled it to 29.8' for the torso measurements from 27 which was the original. With the scale up everything did get sized up (arms & legs) so she did plenty of alterations to get it to my fit.

Hmmmmm ok so it sounds like my calculations were correct then. I scaled mine to 30" and I am 6' 0". Glad it worked out well for you!

This thread has also confirmed some of my fears. I ordered the comic style Orhadar file. I am 6 feet tall on the nose but have an athletic build. Trophywife was worried about the suit fitting me width wise so I emailed Orhadar about widening it and was just told to widen the entire file by a few inches. I have already submitted the fabric to Fabricsondemand as of a week ago and now I am worried that it is not going to fit my height. As someone else already mentioned, it sounds like a lot of people are wasting money because the information offered for resizing upon purchasing files is pretty vague. Does anyone around my height have experience with the comic style print without modding it for extra height?

I'm glad I found this thread. I haven't done a costume from one of these patterns yet because I have the same concerns about being able to squeeze into a full body suit. (I've made other costumes with leotards and tights and whatnot but never a one-piece suit.)

I just watched a YouTube video of McLean at Comicon Salt Lake in 2013... He looks pretty tall (he appears taller than everyone else in the video), so I'm wondering if his pattern would work better for us tall guys. :confused Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9tO1Lxy6W0

Yep you came to the right place! This is what I am going through as we speak!

So as an update NOTHING has been working out. Got my pattern back finally from FOD, took it to my seamstress that same and a week and a half later I call her and she says she forgot!!! Not only forgot but wouldn't be able to get me in this week!
This is NOT good. I now have three possibly four paid gigs this week and now no costume at all! Faceshell still has not arrived and I am now officially in DEFCON ONE mode!
I searched EVERYWHERE for a decent looking ready made ASM2 costume and was able to track down a guy in PA with what looks like a Zentai deluxe version with removable hood luckily in my size. So that is now being overnight end to me today. Ugh. I don't need this stress right now!
