Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club (PIC HEAVY!)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 12/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Damn!! I don't know what you were smokin' to dream up doing this, but it sure is helping you make one hell of a nice model. Kudos and congrats. :)

Firstly, may I apologise unreservedly for not replying to your first post. And thank you for your very kind words. :) I think you posted at the same time that Underdog got himself into a bit of difficulty, and ended up being 'exiled.' Sad situation but one of those things, I guess....
Your build is superb, 8 perf and I am glad to see that you are also using the Eagle Restoration thread as, you are right. It is a wealth of info and reference pics! Please feel absolutely welcome to post your build here on this thread should you wish to join the fun! Or, if you prefer to just tune in, that's cool, too.:)
You are certainly very welcome either way or both! :lol
Thanks again for your support, 8 perf.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 12/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

I can't imagine how much your progress would be accelerated if this was what you guys were paid to do....:wacko

Believe me, I'd love to be able to devote full-time to work like this! It's always so frustrating to just get progress started, all fired up to keep going and then having to stop on account of time constraints imposed by the necessities of life. I envy those who've been able to do things like this.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Itty-bitty update:
Well, the trapezoids are done and painted! Yay! I glued them to the back wall and inserted (sans glue) the parts into the command module to check the fit again.
Now I need to finish the little gray panels on the side that intersect with the trapezoids, and also finish the floor. Which brings to mind my question for Darren: what color do you perceive the floor to be?

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

The carpet appears to be a mid grey in colour with possibly a hint of blue but I have seen what appears to be a beige colour in some instances. To be absolutely safe, I would stick to the mid grey. I will throw some pictures up if I can find some. Great update BTW. That is really looking sweet. That is the nicest Eagle Cockpit I have ever seen!

Update! here are a couple of pics: Hope that helps. :)

Okay, here is another update :)

I have managed to construct the other side of the aisle that leads to the Forward Walkway and the CM. Here are a few shots of it in place and of how things are generally shaping up in the Passenger Pod.

I really love this next shot as it is the first time I have achieved enough construction to see the inside and the outside at the same time.:cool I'm pretty stoked about that little milestone...
Here are a few more shots to finish off with.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

OMG! all I can say is, if "I" ever want to start my own movie or TV show. You two would be my model makers. The level of detail and attention to it are amazing. Now for the carpeting there is a bluish gray carpet that my dad used to have in his office that almost perfectly matched what was shown in the Eagle. It was called I think gunmetal gray. And I think I remember there was also a dark mustard colored carpet shown in one of the Eagles? I'm thinking the Medical pod? Seriously Awesome work.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Thanks, Greylocke! The Eagle that brought Comander Koenig up to Moonbase Alpha in The very first episode, Breakaway had a beige/sandy coloured carpet. I think the producers realised VERY quickly how dirty it was getting and swapped it out for the grey one. But that's just my take on it...
Can I act in your movie, too? :lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

This is the thread to visit whenever I want to be dizzy with awe. You two guys rock.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Well, I hope we can keep you spinning, Chrisisall! Just make sure not to eat an hour before visiting!:lol

Yeah, I was thinking charcoal gray myself. It would provide nice contrast to the light-colored walls.

Staggering achievements thus far, Darren! At least with you so far ahead of me, I can just sit back and let you make all the mistakes so I can avoid them when I get there! :lol

Oh yeah, and Greylocke: I'd be perfectly content somewhere behind the camera!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Thanks, Bob! I am eager to see how you go about skinning your CM and how you construct the Passenger pod, I must admit. I will have to keep adding accessories to my eagle, like storage containers, space suits in the racks etc, until you catch up! :lol
I think I have pretty much worked out how I am going to do the WC by the way! :lol
As for behind the camera, I want a blaster and a tasty makeup woman!

Cheers Chris! If we rock then you are the DJ!

I knew there was that yellowish color I just couldn't remember where/which Eagle.

And I actually have a script I'm working on it requires 1 "Old" man, 1 young woman, 1 teen female and 3 preteen boys. Can you grow a long beard? It's set in the Road Warrior Milieu, and only 3 total spoken lines. No gunplay but guns are props. If your interested, think ya can get to Texas? :D

You can always be the prop wrangler. :) The one prop I actually am trying to find is an old metal radio flyer wagon.

I have other short stories and semi-scripts I've been working on over the years. One short story I've got going right now is Sci-Fi and involves bio-mechanical spacesuits and armor. I've hi-jacked your guys thread enough for today :)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

:lol I would love to but I think I am banned from the USA after I wrote a letter to a certain former head of state, strongly protesting....certain policies. I haven't actually been banned, but it's a long way to fly to be turned back at the gate! :lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

The one prop I actually am trying to find is an old metal radio flyer wagon... I've hi-jacked your guys thread enough for today :)

The best I can do is a small metal Radio Flyer replica I have, I think about 14 inches long!:confused

No worries about "hi-jacking" the thread...it takes the pressure off us to divert eyes once in a while!:)

I don't think you'd be banned, Darren, but I kinda know the feeling somewhat. Every time I drive into a particular town where I once (the only time in my life) ran a stop sign, I always feel invisible eyes on me. Considering it was about 30 years ago, I'm probably okay...but my guilt lives on!:$ My conscience won't let me live it down!

Oh, yeah, a little progress:
Okay, winding up the day by finishing the side panels. I printed out the control panel rear ends which are the ones that intersect the trapezoids (the front ends I'll deal with separately after I've built the main control panel across the front of the seats: best to sub-divide headaches into their smallest components, I find).
I took the printouts and glued them to thin white cardboard, as before. What I think I neglected to mention was that, as is customary for me when dealing with computer-printed details, is to let the ink dry and rub in some mink oil to the paper printouts. This seems to do well to protect the ink from the rigors of air and time, as well as moisture. As you can see, I've used quite a bit over the years...once in a while even for boots!

I took the knife and carefully scribed a scratch line where the trapezoid intersects. Then as per usual I rubbed in a bit of wood ash into the scribe to make it visible. Now it should be quite easy to make custom-fit pieces, so the trapezoids won't have to ride on top of the raised panels!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Having a bit of trouble sleeping tonight, so what better way to pass a little unexpected time than by continuing to build?:unsure
I finished up the rest of the intersecting (with the trapezoid) gray pieces on the sides. I'm reasonably happy with them but they do seem like more trouble than they're worth. Ah well, at least I won't have to bore anyone with them again now!
View attachment 91056View attachment 91057
Now, on to the floor. I need to establish its dimensions so when the rear wall and sides are inserted and mounted into place, the edges will meet with the floor and hopefully leave no visible gaps between them. Since there are small discrepancies in the measurements of the pieces (heck, even if there weren't!) I'm not capable of the kind of math necessary to measure something like that. So, I need to make a template based on the finished "resting places" of the parts. I lightly glued strips of cardboard onto the floor up against the edges. This turned out to be quite difficult, because I just couldn't get my hands into such a confined space (bear in mind I was holding the parts tightly in place while trying to do this also).
One by one, I was able to do it, then I removed the sides and back wall and lightly adhered a piece of paper on the floor and burnished the edges of the cardboard into the paper. I was careful to align the front edge of the paper with the front edge of the floor cardboard, so I should (crossing fingers) now have an accurate template with which to make a properly sized floor!
View attachment 91058View attachment 91059View attachment 91060
Theoretically, if this works I'll be able to glue the backs and sides into place, then glue down the floor...of course, I won't be able to do any of that until I build the front wall of the command module! Arrrgh!!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Hey, Bob! You are catching me up on the CM side of things! Looking better than ever, my friend! Hope you got SOME sleep! :)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

It's looking very good. I like the tip of the mink oil. I had never even thought about the fading issue. As for the wagon, I really will need a full size as it is actually a key item in the story.

Atlanthia on being banned. Hmmmm well you could always fly to Canada then drive down :)

Good, I had hoped someone might find some value in that mink oil bit. I try to throw things like that in when I can, so others can add them to the try/discard file!

As for the Radio Flyer...well, you could always compensate with miniature actors!:lol
