Solid Metal Terminator Pewter T-800 Bust Replica Prop (WIP)

Agreed. This really does look awesome! It's extremely faithful to the original, you really couldn't get much closer to the look of the screen version, and that's coming from somebody who's hand built two all-metal T800 skulls.

Looking forward to see the neck!

Cheers dude. Your build is wicked too, I wouldn’t know where to start with a lathe let alone all the welding etc.

I have the neck ready to mold, I had to sculpt the lower piece. But it was good to add my own touch.

I had the weathering to do on the right side piece, as well as adjust some small bolt details. The last two little jobs on the skull are done.
I will be polishing some of the neck rods next. Then building the base and finally casting the neck. Hopefully complete within the next couple months.

This is looking amazing, off question.... Where does one buy lead free pewter cheap? Im looking online but the prices are really high. Around £30 a kilo

Unfortunately Pewter is expensive, Mine is from https://www.britishtinandpewtermills.com/pewter-ingots
I must have spent £800 on pewter alone for all the parts.
WHOLY CRAP!
But pewter is meant to be the inexpensive cheap easy to play with metal......I remember as young kids in the 80s little cap guns being made with the stuff as it was so cheap, figurines and what not.... Heck even copper is cheaper than this.... what happened? did people stop making it? So its all reclaimed recycled stuff?

It is pricey doing large solid objects.
If you are doing smaller things a kilo does go a fair way. The problem I had was I had a vinyl skull, it was too flimsy to make pieces that I could break up and mold. I had to make all my parts solid castings in simple 2 part molds. So that pushed up material costs. A good 2 litres of liquid pewter for the skull jaw chest and pistons.

OMFG! ***** H ******! D: might had been cheaper building a forge and casting in aluminium... No deffo would be cheaper! D:
Yeah true, I could have done. Although that would mean molding and casting a solid plastic skull, then breaking that into parts for sand casting. As you couldn’t sand cast a solid one from all the undercuts. Then it would require a lot more finishing, sand casting leaves a poorer surface finish.
But then I could use a forge along with investment plaster molding, although that would add extra costs. Finding all the equipment for molding and casting a piece that large would get expensive. Although this would make finishing a lot easier. There are many options with pros and cons.
I went for detail and a better finish, using low tech methods. Over focusing on weight or material cost, with a more difficult process.
I would like to try the investment plaster and aluminium at some point. But it will be expensive I also.
Also a random picture for anyone thinking the updates are of the skull

looking great still :D i just cant get over how expensive pewter is! it really REALLY shouldnt cost that much

I won't be getting smooth on stuff, that's always really over priced and marked up in the UK. But I'm sure I can find cheaper high temp rtv rubber.

Even if I still go with pewter. It's a very bright metal. What's the best way to get a dark gun metal finish on it?
