Skull's Custom Predator Design

Never allow a cat near a predator...

Sculpting damn near done, on to bending to shape, patching and fixing, texturing and prepping for molding.

small update: I tried heating the clay (but seperate parts) in two instances, one broken and briefly fixed, one completely intact. I then heated the clay to about 40 degrees Celsius, which makes the clay buttersoft, easy to work with, so I'll keep that in mind for next sculpts.

But the crack on my sculpt is only fixed on the outside, the inside is still severed. Which means that if I place it on a snap-cast thigh or something else that has the same shape, my sculpture most likely will crack again, even when it's soft. Which means all the more fixing on my part. One solution is to "glue" the pieces together with completely molten clay, another is to quick-fix it when it is placed, texture and finalize it, and move on to molding.

Don't know for sure which one it will be.

One thing is for sure, next time I'd better use the final surface as a sculpting-base, or use a harder surface to start out on o_O

Hang in tight boys and girls, thighpads on the way!

Amazing sculpts. Your suit reminds me of a Borg P1.

Thanks

A Borg P1? Interesting, I was aiming for a mix between P1, Terminator (the 80's vibe their tech had is unsurpassed) mixed with elements of another great SWFX-creation: Galaxy Quest's Sarris, for his organic looking armor and lines, to make the design more tribal than the AVP boys. As cool as the Wolf is, he just isn't my cup of tea

That's no moon...!

Today I spend some time figuring out how to smooth the surface, turpentine is too agressive for the job and leaves a sticky mess, torching allows less control, but just plain old smoothing and then rubbing with a wet finger/brush will do the trick just fine.

Then I made a make-shift texture-stamp by taking a piece of clay, pressing some dents in it, then dripping in some hot candlewax, leave it to cool in the fridge, clean, wet the sculpt for non-stick and started pressing the stuff in. Will rough up the surface just a bit after it has been bend on a cast of my leg, but this is pretty much final IMO.

I like the rough edges/battle damage on the sculpt, nice texture too so great work on it.
What is the next thing on the list?

Will be largely reworking the chestpiece I did, giving it a smoother profile and generally more fitting the same style.

The dented look is a mix between the classic smooth looks of the P1 and in a lesser extend the P2, and the newer hammer-finish of the AVP kids.
The aim was to have a slightly corroded metal look, but I didn't have the patience to make texture stamps of corroded metal in time, so I emulate the look first by putting the dents in, and then go in with something a little coarse, a scouring pad or something akin.

Now I just want to redo the lines that mark the "panels" and finalize, put it in sillicone. Still rubbing my head weather I should cast it pre-shaped, or keep the mould flat and shape the cast when and where needed...

I think I will churn out some modular pieces, so I can provide mix-n-match outfits if needed.

Ready for molding, now I have to find a nice product...

18 CM wide, 32 long. (7 inch and a bit by nearly 13 inch), would one KG or 2 Lbs be enough?

Thanks man!

Really learning a LOT sculpting these bitches. And I noticed I just started sculpting about 14 years late :(

Yesterday I tried to sculpt some detail/Sarris influences on the Chest plate, but decided to practice on a smaller piece of clay (each "bay" is about a finger wide)
Or how it looks on the full sculpt, as I had some steam to vent today.

So you start dicking around in Photoshop after you've done the shading, and this is the best you can come up with.

Taking the lessons learned on that one to the chestplate, you move on. Cursing yourself for not sticking to the lines-only-design (since it makes it that much harder to use the magic wand to mask your shading)

Skipping right to the colored version:

Looking back at the thigh pad made me all "meh", so I loaded the file back up again and did a quick and dirty job to match the coloring better, resulting in this piece:

This speed suits me alright, so expect more updates soon
amazing

hi guys, project still in progress, but had a pretty turbulent life recently, going back to college after 5 years work, taking a step back financially.

Still, I've got heaps of paper and pencils, so I thought it'd be nice to start drawing again.

About a year and a half ago, I started gathering idea's for the Glaive I want to build for the custom design, I just love Chris Warners Take on the design, and I just amped the detail a bit from his original design.

Traced it for outline/blocking, added layout of details, sized up and redid the design itself.

awesome, will it be collapsable?

Thanks for the kind words!

Bo'Skarr:

The spear/glaive won't be collapsible, but it is a permanently bladed weapon. Still a LONG way from doing that one though

The influence I mentioned for the backpack is a, wait for it, robot I've seen in a book on drawing robot's by Keith Thompson, I just REALLY liked the arc of it's back, so I kinda borrowed that and build the backpack around the arc.
