Skull's Custom Predator Design

Finally, an update once more:
Started sculpting the chest plate armour as practice, since it's the flattest sculpt in the package and allows me to sculpt both curves and straight edges.

Started out with the base itself, cut from a cardboard box to give me an outline.
Added volume for general shape in this stage. (about half an hour in)

Then I started adding layers of clay to recreate the feel of panels. (about one and half hours in)

To give it a little more depth, I added a rim on each panel itself, smoothed out the spikes on the edge to blend in better. (about 3 and half hours in)

Started sculpting the "bone" collar/edge (about 4 hours in)

Detail shot on the "bone" collar/edge.

I have to hook up my scanner, but I'll post a scan of the first layout sketch later this evening.

Not settled on the lower armour parts (thigh pads, shin-armour) and gauntlets, but the style will be roughly like this sketch.

Will add webbing and skin-texture in future layers, then start color-testing.

The gauntlets design looks great in my opinion.
Hope you get the design of the lower armor parts sorted out, I have trouble with them myself.

Thanks for the kind words, it really adds to my confidence to pursue this direction and hobby. I've got to learn a shitload of skills/materials though, and right now my main concern is to get it smooth enough to start detailing. I've got to make and buy some tools for the job though.

I'll try to visit a SFX-shop in Holland soon, perhaps they can give me tips on sculpting too, I dunno.

Again: thanks, and sorry for the slow process of this project, but I'm having some difficulty balancing my life and making the right choices lately...

hi guys, project still in progress, but had a pretty turbulent life recently, going back to college after 5 years work, taking a step back financially.

Still, I've got heaps of paper and pencils, so I thought it'd be nice to start drawing again.

About a year and a half ago, I started gathering idea's for the Glaive I want to build for the custom design, I just love Chris Warners Take on the design, and I just amped the detail a bit from his original design.

Traced it for outline/blocking, added layout of details, sized up and redid the design itself.

Too bad flickr sizes my originals down, the originals being higher resolution and more crisp.

But thanks for the compliment :D
