SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

Sadly, I'm on board with the non-working sonic...'tis still a beauty though. I have no concerns as to MFX putting it right though...lovely chaps, all of them!

What sucks about mine is that it worked even up to last night showing a friend on webcam! Then just stopped.

But MFX is arranging FedEx retrieve and will fix it up!

Well on my end MFX arranged for a FedEx pick up so hopefull withj some haste I cannot see it taking too long to get my replacement!

Me too, though I most likely won't be home in 24 to 48 hours when they show up. I am going to swing by FedEx tonight on the way home and see if they will accept it from me with the return number.

My guess is we'll just all get new sonics and then these will be repaired and re-sold. Except for Primrodo's, his is all sweaty!

After sitting at customs since last week, it was finally delivered this morning. ( 10/13/09)
I gave my significant other the honor of opening the box and pressing it on for the first time. Together we squealed with delight. :lol
After about 20 seconds it stopped working. :cry

So I’m in the same boat as the rest of you guys. Who do we contact?
BTW, it's a work of beauty!

I'm wondering if the paint is working it's way into the contacts of the activator button. Has anyone tried using canned air to blow out the contacts and see if it works?

Just got this fom MFX:

the Status of your Order No. 284 has been changed.

Comments on your Order:
Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry we have not been able to fulfil your order as of yet. At this point we anticipate that your order should definitely reach you within the next couple of weeks.
We have received a very large volume of orders and have been working hard to get them all processed and shipped and are moving towards your order.
We apologise for this delay and thank you in advance for your continued patience.
MFX Warehouse Team

So what does that mean??

I'd like to ask Neil if any more screwdrivers are actually going of the door following the problems with the first ones? Are we liking to be running into next week's threatened national postal strike?

What I discovered from a close examination (And considering a work around) was that the set up for this sonic is reversed from a normal circuit. As I sat there pondering the fact that a lit LED is the simplest circuit in the world, why oh why are these having so much trouble?

A typical circuit for an LED is nothing more than a LED, a power source and a switch. Usually the switch is on the negative side of the LED anode. The postitive side connects to the positive side of the battery, the negative side connects to one contact on the switch, the other contact connect to the negative side of the battery. When you push the swith, the circuit opens and the LED lights up.

Now, on this, the positive side is being used for the switch. The negative is wired directly and the positive side of the LED is soldered to the inner body, thus the body itself is used as the carrier, There is a little depression trigger from the body that pushes down into the battery or spring, which closes the circuit and activates the light. Needless to say, this is tricky.

I was planning to use a micro switch under the trigger and wire it up to the negative side and use that to trigger it, but since it's under warranty and being sent back, I'm going to let the fine folks at MFX sort it out.

I would imagine that is the reason for the late shipping on the remaining orders as they are working all these out, so the next wave does not come back to them.

Our two are going out tonight via FedEx. Should be there Thursday. Gotta hand it to Neill, their customer service is A-1.

So, NakeMoleRat, what you're saying is...THEY REVERSED THE POLARITY OF THE NEUTRON FLOW!!! ;)

So totally could not resist that one. Sorry.

A few pages back Neill said that they had figured out the problem, so I assume hes got it fixed for everyone here on out.

Mine just arrived a little bit ago! It is, as # 9 would say, fantastic! :love

I'm crossing my fingers in the hopes that it didn't ship out until the problem was corrected. The shipping date listed on the customs form is yesterday's date (although, in typical British fashion, they've written it in the reverse of the way we do here in the States! It says 12/10/09, which made me laugh! I was like "December 10th? It's come back in time from the FUTURE! How appropriate!!" :lol)

My one and only problem so far is that I NEVER received an email confirming that it had shipped out. And I've checked my email's spam box every day or 2, so I know it didn't get stuck in there. :unsure

I'll post some "Customer Action Shots" later on in the week, have a few things to take care of outside of the house right now.

Neill, I just want to say once again, THANK YOU for all your hard work making this prop replica a reality for us. It is much appreciated. I know this project was a real labor of love for you, and it shows in the final prop. :)

Now then... BRING ON THE MASTER'S LASER SCREWDRIVER!!! :love

Just, uh... give us a few months to save up for it, first. ;)

Oh yeah, one last thing: As I've mentioned before, my order number was 321. I'm not sure why some of you with numbers lower than mine (and therefore, ordered before I ordered mine) didn't have yours shipped out yet, whilst mine has shipped. :unsure

Here are some of mine! (I love the Canon Rebel)
Primrodo, I only just now noticed this post, and I'm seeing something I don't recognize, so humor me here, if you would...

Which Sonic Screwdriver replica am I seeing on the right in this picture...

...and on the right in this one?

Is that the LED flashlight/torch? A newer toy from Character Options?!? :confused

Please enlighten me, because I've never seen that one before.

It's the one that comes with the journal of impossible things and Captain Jack's vortex manipulator.
Wow, didn't realize the new one was that different! In some ways, they've made it MORE accurate. But the non-extending emitter hurts it a little bit.

Still, the Journal of Impossible Things would be a neat prop repro to have, so maybe I'll have to pick one up at some point. Also need to get River Song's Future Sonic and the set with the Sonic Pen, too. :cool

I'm actually quite peeved about this, given that we are facing a national postal strike next week, MFX have yet to give me a ship date, and are requesting extra payment to ensure I actually receive what I paid a lot of money for :angry

I have asked MFX customer services why some customers are receiving their order ahead of others, despite the promised first come first served policy.

BTW Jack, this little rant isn't aimed at you :)

I'm just not too impressed with how MFX are dealing with some of their UK customer's orders, saying the delay is caused by 'high order levels' despite Neil already stating here that quality control issues put a hold on shipping.
