SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

Yea, their site is nice enough to tell me that it exists, but they don't sell it online. None of the stores listed in their "where to buy" section actually stock the stuff either. If somebody were nice enough to volunteer to mail me a couple cans, I'm not exactly sure how it would have to be mailed, USPS won't touch aerosol cans, so maybe FedEx? Anybody in the UK willing to pick up the two cans for me please send me a PM.

Was supposed to be here today, but it's stuck in customs, in Memphis. Not only did they not like the description given, but MFX also has it addressed to ship to Nebraska, NOT Nevada where I live! Also if I have to pay custom charges ON TOP of the $70.00 I shelled out for shipping, I won't be happy either. I just put out close to $450.00 for this and don't think I should have to pay any more. Don't know when I'll eventually get it, but when I contacted MFX customer service (through email) about the customs issue, the lady who responded said that they are not responsible for US customs, but she is very sorry for the delay in shipping! So they are not responsible for what they wrote on the air bill that has my package held up?

I was considering a clock work mask and cyberman head, but not now...

Not all of us have the cash to throw around that you do! $50.00 is a big deal to those of us who don't have R2 in the house or every prop ever seen on every version of Trek, or Wars, blade runner, etc.......

Dude, relax. It's a prop. It's a few bucks. Life is short. Way too short to get "Beyond angry" over something like this. Honestly :)

dude, you cannot blame MFX for what customs adds to your bill!

Mines simply tax and the "customs handling fee".

I have had to pay that a few times in my life, its the way they handle product coming into your area and affix local tax as well as their "cut".

Nothing to really get upset with MFX at..if anything be ticked with your government on that. I am not thrilled either, but its not as bad as the 120 I paid on a coat.

I do not have an EXTRA 50 myself...but if I want it I HAVE to pay....

Justin,
You're absolutely right about that! I'm just so frustrated with the whole thing that I had not thought it through to who was charging what.

Thank you.

assumed that if they have a US site they would at least stock the paints! Maybe some friendly UK RPF members could post you a can.

Saying that I know it's not easy to find on shelves in the UK either. We get ours from this supplier - http://www.paintsprays.co.uk/catalog/.

I just looked into posting the paints for you guys as I live in the UK. Unfortunately Royal Mail will not carry them as they are on their prohibited items list (Aerosols).

How about sending them surface?

Neill - MR used to place a piece of paper for the attention of customs in their replicas, explaining exactly what it was, that it could not fire / explode / and was a collector's display item - or words to that effect.

WOO! Just got mine this morning, and it looks FANTASTIC. It has a great weight to it and the finish of the crackle is great. The only thing I can see wrong with is is a tiny lack of paint right behind the light activation button, but it's really minor and just me being nitpicky.

I'll try and get some pics up once my camera battery charges up.

Here're some pics:

And here's a pic of the back of the slider and light button. Let me know what you guys think? Think it warrant an exchange based on the price of this piece?

We here in the States have the same problem with the US Postal Service. You'll have to use an alternative carrier, such as UPS, Fed Ex, or DHL Worldwide Express. They're likely the only companies that will accept such items these days. :unsure

And unfortunately I'm willing to pay what it takes to have it shipped that way. Please let me know if you find a carrier that will deliver it.

Wow!!
from the photos it looks like they knocked this one out of the ballpark!!!!!!
FedEx stopped at my house today but I was not home to sign for it. I can go pick it up in two hours from there depot though (2 blocks away from my work). After seeing those photos I can not wait to open the box!!!!!

One question, is the tip part on that Cast or machined aluminum? It is hard to tell from the photo.

That is what I was guessing but thought I would check. One more hour to Sonic pick up time. :lol

No I think it adds character and realism. It's not supposed to look brand new after all.

I have emailed a few of them for a definitive yes or no. I'll keep you posted.

wow. That was called for. Bitter much? Apologies for trying to help a fellow prop enthusiast keep things in perspective, and avoid wasting precious energy and emotion on a shelf trinket.
