SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

Worse than the standard Canadian post? That's an accomplishment.

I KNOW! The fact that CP takes the package and eventually arrives is something....FedEx wouldn't even come get it!

Rounding up would be $440 or $450, tops. $500 is something else entirely... makes it sound like you're just automatically assuming everyone is going to get hit up for sales tax and/or extortionist fees from Customs. I had NEITHER! :)

You did not get any customs taxes?

You did not get any customs taxes?
None whatsoever! :)

That's one of the advantages of living in the States. Over the years, I've occasionally had to order something from the UK or Europe, because that's the only place it was available. I also have friends in the UK and Europe and we occasionally do trades. I send them something they want that can only be purchased in the US, and they'll send me something I want that's only available where they are. And on all occasions, I've never been hit with any customs fees or taxes. :)

But that's why I could never live in the UK, Europe, or Canada. All those extra taxes and fees would drive me INSANE!!! :thumbsdown

crazy! Mine was literally just our Taxes....GST and PST...just like when crossing the border on a shopping trip.

Well my sonic is back in transit to me. Says it is scheduled for the 21st, if it does not get held up in customs again. Though I doubt it will this time. MFX seems to have found the right wording to satisfy US customs folks. Here's hoping I get to play with it soon again.

Just be careful not to play with it TOO much, or you might go blind! :lol

Seriously, you might! Have you SEEN how bright that LED bulb is? ;)

My sonic came back today :)

It QUIT working after 10 pushes :angry

Soooooo, send it back for repair AGAIN, or just plain old send it back for a refund?

I'd contact them right away and see what you can do. I mean its up to you with what you want to do, but they really need to be working on getting it to work...I'd rather they hold on to it for awhile longer to fix than this happening again to me as well. If I get mine back and it stops working, I'll get someone to help install a proper button under.

Okay dude, seriously... you have got THE WORST luck with these! :confused

If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all! :lol

I've contacted them, they offered to ship it back again...

Then it worked again and I counted it, three more times. Then quit. An hour later it fires eight times, then nothing for three hours, then thirteen times, then nothing for the rest of the night. I too think it just needs a proper switch, you know, something SOLDERED to a switch, not just a little pin touching the positive end of the battery.

Don't know....I just don't know what I want to do yet.

I saw posted elsewhere about doubt that the head was milled/machined and that they were sure it was diecast.

Here is a HUGE picture of the head taken by me...are these not machine marks?

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a332/Primrodo/IMG_1508.jpg

Yeah I was looking at those. If this head was machined it looks like it was sand blasted lightly with glass bead to give it a textured effect. If you look at the end and the neck piece the head connects to you see a continuous series of lines going around it like it was brushed while spinning. Thats machine markings from a lathe. the head on the other hand doesn't have that. It could also be from a casting process as well since cast metal has that sort of look to it too, but I can't see any mold lines...which could have been filed off and then glass beaded over to remove the mold marks. I could go by feel since die cast metal has a slightly different feel of density to it than solid machined aluminum but without one in front of me I can't say for sure. Possible though.

EDIT: It COULD be that if they casted this, they did it in a solid piece, then milled the windows open and the channel for the LED after, which means they were not lying about it being machined but just left out the extent of the machining. Cuts down costs that way. If it was completely machined then 'm at a loss to explain why they would add that textured look to the entire emitter head since a piece like that would look amazing fresh from a CNC machine. I do remember their prototype picture had a texture similar to that but only on those four posts, the section just before the lens and just up to the neck separation had lathe marks on them. See here: http://photos.actionfigs.com/data/3566/SDC_3704.JPG

I'm sorry to hear the MFX sonic is having problems. I was hoping it would be tougher. I was thinking about the engraved numbering and I know where they could have engraved the number on it. On that brass tube they use for the battery compartment. It wouldn't have been visible and the owner would know it was there. To bad about that.

Good luck to all those that bought one. I hope MFX gets the problem fixed.

It's pretty disappointing that there have been so many problems with these, on the simplest of electronic effects :unsure

I haven't had any problems with mine, but it seems like the fault is pretty random and could happen any time. Not good for the price they charged for these :thumbsdown

I heard from Martina at MFX saying that the problem has been localized to the type of LED used on these and that they are rectifying the situation. They are covering shipping, which is great and really only prolongs a perfect working order sonic. Hopefully when mine arrives it will work and I will post my results.
