Sculpting Two Bios

looks great J.

Interest threads are all well and good if people are genuine and come through for you.

I have been messed about with normal interest pms, one person of which is about to be called out in a week as its the 3rd time they have messed me about.

People need to be respectful and i hope your thread wil get that Jason, as theres a difference between "Interest", and "want but do not want to pay"

More likely " want but dont have the money"

Yea we all get the wants but dont have moneys.... gotta look at the final number and take out about 20%.... but then you have the lurkers who didnt say anything and suddenly come through, so add 15 % LOL sculpture looks great, glad to see you trying your hand!

Yeah... I am one of those who would actually "love to have". But I am not going to show interest in a purchase for I know that I have not the funds to cover such a buy.

Although, if I did happen upon said funds... YOU CAN BET YOUR ASS I WOULD BE PURCHASING!

I will more than likely start a thread for people who are interested just to get an idea for numbers. Once I know how many there are, I'm going to ask for half of the amount to be paid, and then the other half upon completion - just like they do on the RPF.

I have enough material to make approx 10 Bios and there is a distributor that can ship me the product next day, so no worries there. Once this one is done, I can work on Rob's Bio - THAT one has me more excited than this one!!

Good Day, im new here and dont know much to say, im from the philippines, and just like you guys, im about to make a prdator helmet sculpt, is it ok if I use this brand of clay (Van Aken Plastalina) this is the only clay available in the philippines in big amounts of about 4.5lbs...need your quick response SIRS! and by the way, how did you smooth you sculpt...

I've never used that clay myself but any clay is good enough for sculpting. As for smoothing - I'm using 99% alcohol and cotton pads. Hope that helps.

I've been taking some screen caps from the movie to figure out how the laser shroud looks before I start sculpting it. I managed to get a few pictures of it and from what I can see, the shroud looks like a rounded triangle at the opening where the lasers come out:

Some more screen caps here but the one on the bottom left isn't from the movie and you can clearly see that the opening is round - not triangular:

There is also the HCG Bio that has a triangular shape, but looks to be longer and more defined. The top leading edge is longer than the bottom as well:

My guess is that they had at least two to three different Bio helmets for the movie which is why the shape differs so much. Still unsure how to sculpt it, but I'm leaning towards the HCG

I really think the shroud has been one of the most revised and guessed at parts of the Predator. We have clear shots of the armor, canon etc but hardly any clear photos exist from the shroud side. The is still a huge work in progress until I get it right:

Instead of digging a line over the back fins, I decided to raise the upper fin layer so that they stand out more:

That's the clay [Van Akin Plastina] I use and it's good to work with.

Sculpt looks great Jason, can't wait to see it cast up!

big thanks sir Munson for the reply, now i'll be buying that Van Aken Platalina...so that i could start making a sculpt...

there no 99% alcohol here in the philippines, but a 70% isoprophyl alcohol....is this ok for smoothing? another thing, if the clay hards up a bit, what i should do, add baby oil?

Dude, I was so talking this over with a few members a couple weeks back. I took screen caps just as you did and came to the very same conclusion. It is very much triangular and it hugs the overall shape of the tri-laser tip. Very cool to see a like minded opinion on it. Keep up the good work J.

I want to follow the screen used Bio, but with the HCG being so much clearer, sleeker and refined, I want to use that one. Give me one more update to see where it goes...

Awesome sculpting and detective skills Jason! When I was researching the hose pod assembly for my P1 stunt I thought there might have been 3 different version of those aswell. From what I remember off hand I thought I saw 1 pod with 2 holes and two 3 hole pods with slightly different hole placement. Then again it could have been angle type of situation. I'm 75% sure there were 3 different ones.

I can't wait for the next update!
