Limited Run RUN CLOSED * DL-44 ESB Blaster Machined Parts Set * RUN CLOSED

Why? The Hoth is the only blaster that had them.

I thought the consensus was the Bespin blasters had no obvious views of the piston side and it was conceivable that they did in fact have them installed. I ordered three piston sets and all of my ESB blasters will have them. Of course, I build idealized blasters, not screen accurate. Don't forget, it's better to regret something that you have done instead of something you haven't.

I've posted pics of that side of both blasters, and they do not have them.

I build idealized blasters for myself too and the Bespin Blaster looks a little plain without them.

It's really all a matter of preferences, which is why my projects are always a la carte

Actually there have been many pics posted of the Luke Bespin, I didn't mean to make it sound like I posted the only one. Here is a pic I found of Han's Bespin

I know it's screen accurate without them. I just share Boba's sentiment that they look a little more boring.

But I'm having the blaster to stick to my Bespin Han costume.

I did a quick test fit, this will look 1000% better once it's painted and weathered.

I also think the disk I am having made for the aft side piston screw will end up being a must have, I plan to use 2 one in the front and one in the back

Would it be too difficult for the slot to be rounded to match the screws? That's the shape I'm going to file out of my real pistons anyway.

Considering that they are already machined, yes that would be difficult :)

But seriously, they would not have machined a round counter bore, that would be a very odd tool to have available for use. They would have used a standard flat bottom milling cutter and it would have created the same look.

Personally I think the props used resin pistons and they probably hacked them to fit the fasteners and then filled them in with goo

The solid cast stunt props - yes. The masters they were cast from and hero props - no.

BobaDebt,
Is it too late to have my second and third piston set milled? I love the way those look!
I'm drawing a blank about your aft side piston screw disc. Could you elaborate on this please? Danke!

I almost wonder if the "screws" on either side of the pistons are just globs of glue that were squeezed out between the cracks.

I guess that theory has been visited and discussed, but it may hold some weight.

Edit: looking again at the hi res photo of the Hoth gun, the glob to the right of the pistons looks too squared off at the top to be glue.

It definitely seems that the glob to the right is not centered between the piston halves, though.

Anyway, apologies. Probably should've posted this to the greeblie discussion thread.

Probably. I don't have a lot of extras of the cast parts. It would have to be one of the end of project things after everything gets worked out.

I'm sure Scott or Vince could machine the slots if I can't help you with this.

In this picture, which is the clearest I have seen, you can clearly make out a Philips head screw in the front position but the back looks like a round disk. At first I thought it might be a filled in screw head but it's too flat.

So I am getting the shop to machine disks and you want one for your kit you will be able to add it to the hardware order. I have no idea of price but it shouldn't cost much.

Aha! So that's what you meant by "disc"! I was a little confused about that, as well.

I like your machined slot idea, though. Very clever!

IMHO; I think that it looks like a flat headed philips screw at the back (thus the over hang or sharp round edge we see) and a round headed philips at the front (both plastered in paint)? I'm sure the prop makers never expected such close scrutiny of the props and perhaps risked the mismatched screws due to not having one to hand at that moment ?

Just to avoid the "flames" I might get for saying that .. I am (relatively) new to this and I know there are a lot of folks on here who have been looking into these sorts of details a lot longer than I have :)

I can't take the credit for the slot, it was the shops idea to save money.

No flaming here, just healthy debate.

I have always postulated the "we" put way more thought into the props then the original prop makers.

Man, is anybody else seeing these advertisement "posts" after the last "real" post?

And Scott, I think you're probably right about them just being screws with glue and paint buildup. I just don't see why they'd put them there at all. Just for looks, or for some actual structural reason?
