Just received the stencils for my Romans steel V2! I wanted to get some opinions on whether or not I should use a bit of Birchwood Casey to darken up the steel/aluminum before applying the stencils. I know the steel is already darker than aluminum, so I might leave it alone. I would just use a bit of the aluminum black on the aluminum pommel to match the steel more closely. I know this is a mater of preference, but I just want to find out what everyone else has tried. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
That’s exactly what I would do. I would match the pommel to the boosters steel color
I polished mine so I have to darken the whole entire hilt
But since yours isn’t touched, I would just aluminum black the pommel
jay, also told me he had great results darkening his hilt with aluminum black
It worked on his steel v2, and I’ve seen the pictures for proof
I’m going to try this on mine since mine has to be darkened
Halliwax is correct, i just painted the Aluminium black on with a small arts and crafts brush. Then worked it back with wire wool. That’s exactly what I would do. I would match the pommel to the boosters steel color

Halliwax, did you dry brush some black over the brown on the lower neck? I like it a lot.
