RomanProps: STEEL IS REAL V2

Can someone please confirm/otherwise if the Anakin Starkiller stencils by Trooper Trent are ready for ordering to be used on the Roman Props Luke V2? Thank you.

STENCIL UPDATE:

Trent is on vacation for the next week, he’s out of the country and living off the grind. He’ll be home next week and back in commutation then

Hope this helps

Just received the stencils for my Romans steel V2! I wanted to get some opinions on whether or not I should use a bit of Birchwood Casey to darken up the steel/aluminum before applying the stencils. I know the steel is already darker than aluminum, so I might leave it alone. I would just use a bit of the aluminum black on the aluminum pommel to match the steel more closely. I know this is a mater of preference, but I just want to find out what everyone else has tried. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

That’s exactly what I would do. I would match the pommel to the boosters steel color

I polished mine so I have to darken the whole entire hilt

But since yours isn’t touched, I would just aluminum black the pommel

jay, also told me he had great results darkening his hilt with aluminum black

It worked on his steel v2, and I’ve seen the pictures for proof

I’m going to try this on mine since mine has to be darkened

Halliwax is correct, i just painted the Aluminium black on with a small arts and crafts brush. Then worked it back with wire wool.

Perfect, thanks for the help guys!

I just had a few tiny spots of rust. I used a bit of white vinegar and WD 40 to remove it. I’ll make sure to give it a good cleaning with alcohol before I start with the stencils and painting.

Halliwax, did you dry brush some black over the brown on the lower neck? I like it a lot.

No, that isn’t finished that’s just the first step, all I do is a base coat of brown, but it’s randomly sprayed and over sprayed

Next is tooth paste stenciling, and a different mode flat black, then dry brushing or a mix of browns

I ran out of time, it was 47 degrees yesterday afternoon, I took the chance with my new heat box I made to help dry the paint in the winter weather

Before trying it on a clients V2 I tried it on my steel is real V2. And it worked awesome

I have a propane heater in the shed, warms it up wicked good. But I can’t spray paint inside while the propane torches are burning...

I’m also cautious now after spraying and having all those fumes in the shed to now lite any flames.. so the propane heater is useless when painting.. but if I heat the shed up with the propane heater, then spray paint, then turn on my electric heater with the heat box, it worked awesome!

excuse me toothpaste what?! PM me if you must, I'm shocked that it either removes paint or masks off areas

Toothpaste is a quick and easy paint mask. Paint over it and it washes right off showing the color beneath.

So, it took me a second to realize the saber in the back wasn’t the shadow of the one in front. ;) Almost looks like that black 2.0 stuff at first.

Exactly what Chris said. I use tooth paste to make my own ANH weathered stencils

Other artist will use mustard, I like mustard on my hot dogs and hamburgers, but not my v2’s!! :p

Plus the mustard always smells.. when working with tooth paste the v2 smells like spearmint ;)

I’m finished with the stencils, and I’m pretty happy with how it came out. I’m assuming it’s recommended to do a clear coat to seal and prevent rust. What do you all recommend, 1 coat or 2 clear coats?

Fuzz, I always got away with 1 coat.. but it’s technically 2, 2 really light coats

I never soak it so you can see liquid on the saber, just a fine dusting.. wait 5 min another fine dusting

You see the metal color change in those 5 minutes

Don’t forget when sealing to NOT MIX brands, if you sprayed rustoleum, clear it with rustoleum
