RomanProps: STEEL IS REAL V2

Can’t wait for mine to come in! Going to do the ol’ throw down the driveway a couple of times before I start darkening the steel...this should be interesting! What darkening chemical do you guys recommend? I usually just use aluminum black but super blue seems tempting to use on the steel bits

I really want to get this but I want to keep it clean and I am afraid of rust. Any ideas on a solution or should I just keep dreaming of stainless?

I will be dividing the v2 in half and using super blue on one side and a new chemical on the other

For demonstration purposes

Once I’m done I’ll heavily coat it in clear coat to seal it from oxygen

Inside and out

Whats the new chemical? Aluminum black?
I was also thinking Super Blue for the steel portion but Im not sure if cold blue steel (like how the scope on a DR44 is) would look on the hilt. I mean, it sounds bad ass but there may be some color variances don't you think? Which may just add to the character of the hilt anyway...oh boy, Im really getting ahead of myself aren't I?

If I ever get beyond "OOOH! Steel is pretty!" and decide to go for a "painted" look, I'm going with Stock Doc's Nu-Blu.

Here's why...

From this comparison, Nu-Blu outperforms all other cold bluing products.

Good Luck on yours!

Thanks for that link about the cold blue comparisons!

I'm a firearm collector, as well, so this was great info!

I've always used Super Blue, myself. I've got a massive bottle of it, that I'll likely never see the end of!

hey gang! this is long over due! this sucker is beefy!! I will be updating the first post soon. after examining this all day today, i honestly don't think the booster needs aging... Im going to experiment with some things, and share them here. then you all can make up your mind on what process you want to go, or not at all.

please excuse the sniffling, it drives me nuts when watching videos with people sniffing and coughing.. it gets the the point where i can't just keep on editing out stuff because of every little sniffle

"We can get this emitter spinning" was music to my ears.

I ordered mine last night finally. Still haven't 100% decided what I'm gonna do with it but I'm thinking an ANH/V2 AFBB hybrid, an ANH paint scheme with V2 greeblies

Hey Romans Empire ! In halliwax's video he mentions the pommel is aluminum, not steel. Was that a prototype you sent him? I thought all of the pieces were supposed to be steel? There's no mention of aluminum on the "FX – V2 Steel Kit – Machine Finish" website page, so... what's what?

Hey Halliwax ! Thank you for the review video! That's crazy how the steel rusted through two first class mail pouches, a box full of bubble wrap, and a sealed box! I've had my Roman's Mk1 out on my shelf for...how many years now?... and it still looks brand new. Makes me glad I always fly to the ocean states and rent a car instead of driving my car there when on vacation! That's CRAZY! I hope you're feeling better. And don't worry, I didn't even notice any snifflling. So beyond your voice sounding like you had a clothespin on your nose ;) , I wouldn't have guessed you were still sick in your video. Good job editing!

The pommel is aluminum, I assume because a steel pommel held on by even two set screws wouldn't be sturdy enough, but that's mostly just speculation on my part. It's also, perhaps coincidentally, slightly more accurate visually, since the pommel does look lighter than the booster at least on the actual V2.

It's not on the product page, but Roman's talked about it on his Facebook page.

Yeah, I said "D'oh!" in my best Homer Simpson voice when Halliwax said that... sometimes I surprise myself!!! lol! :p

Everything is steel except the pommel & thumbscrew... those are aluminum. I know I've commented on it being aluminum a few times, but will make sure to edit my website. This is why I never reply to FB messages and ask for people to email me... too many sites to keep track of... then I forget I where I posted the info. o_O

I literally live on the water, we had 80mph winds last weekend, had a storm roll in, everything was covered in salt..

I also live in a basement apartment.. so it’s always damp and humid, even with my dehumidifier..

I keep all my fire arms down here too, but my safe has a electric 24hr heater/de humidifier going, never had a problem in the safe

I wasn’t thinking and should have thrown it in there once I got it (it’s in there now)

Should be tackling this project next weekend got halloween this weekend with my niece

The clamp lite up looks awesome!! With Rudy’s chamber in there and a flash on clash crystal this is going to be intense!
Thanks man! was getting creative with accent lights :p. I did order the RCC chassis since its simply a must have combo. Also, grabbed a sloth furnace vintage clamp card and Got some birchwood casey super blue and aluminum black on order as well. can't wait for it all to arrive! lots of fun ahead

even with my feet humidifier..

Hey Halliwax ! Good timing, I just saw a commercial the other day that would help you out. It was for Carpe Antiperspirant. They make all sorts of them for hands, underarms, and yes, even FEET! HA! ;)

If you were being serious though, is there really a thing called a 'feet humidifier'? Or was that just a crazy auto-correct error and you were trying to say "dehumidifier"?

I can't imagine having a humidifier in an already damp place, so I'm guessing that was it. Made me laugh one way or the other!

Hey zachman8910 ! Have you already run your windvane/grenade, and booster sections through bluing on your Steel V2? Or is that how it came? The coloring difference between those areas, the pommel, and the emitter are very distinct in your photo. Maybe it's just the proximity of the other two aluminum hilts?

It will certainly be a great "Before" photo. I'm looking forward to your "After" photo, once you have it painted!

This photo was taken right out of the box. Up close I noticed the subtle difference in finish that you pointed out. To me it appears that the grenade and booster both have a slight amount of patina on them. I would say that the machine finish is consistent with all the pieces. I am definitely very excited for this build and will be uploading more pics.
