Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

Based on the scant info we have on Snoke during the OT era I don't think he would be in a position to enjoy Royal Guards. There is some indication he may be part of the old Imperial senate. But I don't think we will see him in this film.

Do we have any real info? I haven't been able to dig up much of anything official regarding the character.

I have a feeling the man in white was the original person put in charge of the death star and somehow doesn't survive the backlash that's involved after loosing the plans to the rebels, and therefore the job ends up in Tarkin's hands.

I agree.

As for Snoke, maybe he's a former inquisitor. I know there had been speculation he was the Grand Inquisitor himself although I'm not sure I'd go that far at this point. I do like the old notion that he could be Ezra just because it would be a bit shocking to see what he had become. Ezra would be about the same age as Luke so while not exactly ancient, he would be oldish by the time of TFA. I still don't see it being that outrageous that Snoke could be Plagueis returned from the ether to either avenge or clean up the mess his errant apprentice made and make a true Empire for the ages or somesuch. The fact he explored the mysteries of life and death and other taboo subjects gives LFL a springboard if they ever wanted it but I don't think that'll happen either. Just following his developmental history, I think he's just as likely to be some random Joe Blow that decided to stir things up 30 years after the fall of the Empire for some reason.

Although we saw Tarkin at the end of ROTS at the Death Star construction site.

If not for the lack of blue skin I might have guessed Admiral Thrawn?

I'm guessing that if this guy is a Grand Admiral, he's not in charge of the Death Star, but he's in charge of preventing the Rebels from getting the info OR he's in charge of hunting them down. After the Rebels take the plans, they send Vader to get them back because this guy failed.

Thrawn is supposedly coming back into the fold in the next season of Rebels. What rank he will be is unknown.
