Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

Normally I don't care about fan theories, but really like the current one that the glowing tube in the trailer is a bacta tank, and inside the tank it's Snoke healing from whatever messed up his face... hence the royal guards plus robed figure.

Based on the scant info we have on Snoke during the OT era I don't think he would be in a position to enjoy Royal Guards. There is some indication he may be part of the old Imperial senate. But I don't think we will see him in this film.

Not sure if we will see Tarkin in Rogue one. I'm not convinced his appearance would be of value to the story. Maybe a glimpse. Vader in my mind is almost a certainty, being that he should be the one tapped by the empire/Palpatine, to recover the plans for the Death Star. We see the tail end of that pursuit, at the beginning of ANH. So it makes sense that he would be the big baddie in this one. Even though at this point its just a rumor, I for one am excited by the prospect of seeing him in action again.

I hope they don't use this movie to retcon Snoke or any other character from TFA.

I'd like to see Tarkin, if only to gleam some insight into why he seems to outrank Vader in ANH, holding his leash, so to speak.

Yeah, I always thought his absence in the PT (minus the irrelevant 2-second cameo) was odd so I actually wouldn't mind seeing him play some role in Rogue One at least.

There's nothing to retcon about his character, seeing as we have next to no info on his background except that he's been a part of galactic politics as leader of the first order and that at some point he seduced Ben Solo to the dark side. Any info we get about him in Rogue One, if he is indeed in the movie at all, will be an addition to his background, not a change.

Personally I like the idea that it's a bacta tank and that Snoke is in there. Would be a great way to bring in Plagueis imho: maybe Sidious stuffed his mostly-dead corpse in there and the Emperor is visiting him in some hidden-away chamber.

Was retcon the wrong terminology to use? When they introduce a new character [Snoke] in the new movie [TFA] that was never mentioned in the previous 6 movies... then make another new movie (R1) that takes place somewhere between the first 3 and the last 3... and all of a sudden this "new" character is being mentioned, I'd say that's pretty close to a retcon. Unless, as someone else stated, he's one of the Sith that was believed to have been killed.

"Retcon" means retroactive continuity. For instance, where they make something new that changes something about a character's backstory in order to make some story element work, so it was "always that way". Since we have next to zero data on Snoke, there's nothing to go back and change. Since there's a lot of missing data from the period between ROTS and ANH, this, again, represents new information rather than changing of facts.

I agree with this part...

But not this. It's not Plagueis. Let it go. My money is still on Ezra being Snoke. If that's a bacta tank, I don't think whoever is in it has anything to do with Snoke, regardless, though I'm prepared to be wrong.

You could make that argument then for just about every character in Star Wars that was not seen in ANH. Going by that logic then Gen. Rieken(sp?), Lando, Boba Fett, Mon Mothma, and a whole host of other characters are retcon because we never saw or heard of them in ANH. Since there previously have only been 3 movies in the current timeline, do you honestly believe that we've seen or heard mention of every single character in the Star Wars universe and that you can't introduce anybody new because they were never in ANH, Empire, or Jedi? As if those 3 movies represent the entirety of the SW universe as well as a definitive guide to the Imperial military.

Good points. I concede. :)

I'll be the first to admit my pet theory isn't based on anything but the vague similarity of the features of the two individuals in question. *heh* Given that Snoke's final appearance wasn't set until mere months before the film opened, and that at one point they even toyed with Snoke being female, I'm 100% certain they didn't set out to tie him to any established character. If, in alignment with my theory, they do reveal Snoke to be Ezra, after the latter character was already introduced and while the former character was still in development, that would be a retcon. ;)

As for "ancient"...? *shrug* I don't really know that he comes across as ancient. Just badly messed up. All that's said for sure is that he witnessed the rise and fall of the Galactic Empire, while Ezra was born on the day Palpatine declared the Empire. I can pick my theory apart as easily as I can posit it. But Ezra makes more sense ot me than Plagueis, if he were to be an already-established character, which I believe The Powers That Be that he isn't. :p

I think Ezra is much less likely than Plagueis, although I don't necessarily think either if them will end up being Snoke.

I'm hoping that Snoke was a Dark Force user who thought that he could overpower the Emperor at one stage,...underestimated him & paid the price.....now he's finally in charge.....

.....or......he is one of Palpatine's Moffs......like the 2 weirdos that visited him on the Death Star II......with Palps gone theres always someone waiting to inherit the crown
