Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

Remember what happened the last time they tried to make a live action movie that wasn't episode _? They gave us the holiday special.
I trust Disney enough to do a good job on 7, 8, and 9, but if they decide to do any stand alone movies, just make them animated, and leave the big budget live action films to 7 - 9.

why? I doubt the holiday special fiasco will be what Disney churns out for stand alone films. they invested over $4 billion for the franchise... I"m sure these films will be well done and worth seeing. The holiday special was a quickly made for tv spectacle to take advantage of the popularity of Star Wars and give the network an opportunity to cash in by selling ad space. Now, they could do tv if they want to but much has changed since 1978. Look at the current TV movies like BSG. Besides, I don't think Disney's intent for the stand alone films is for television release.

Remember they also had planned for a live series with a setting set in the down quarters and scum districts of corruscant, but that actually never made it. Lucas sa that jedi was the selling point of the franchise so they really put everything into it, even in clone wars.

As for a stand alone they also had plan to debut mini webseries talking about the jedi purge with vader's tale chasing the last jedi but that made it in the comics only.

I do think the Yoda stand alone movie would be too much work as CGI budget but if they can do it properly I' m in.

I've never heard them say anything like this before.

Saw an article last night that had Ewan McGregor saying he'd be up for an Obi-Wan spinoff.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I'd so watch that...maybe see Obi-Wan come to terms with his exile on Tatooine

If they did this... with more of an OT feel???

NERDGASM!!! (y)thumbsup

I would've been against these standalones had the PT not been soo horrible... but maybe SW can still save some face. Ewan deserves the role he THOUGHT he was getting in Obiwan! :popcorn

I'll be honest... That would be a REALLY boring film! Obi finds an unoccupied area, builds a hut, chases kids off his lawn and waits for Luke to grow up...

I have a feeling the standalone films wont all be packed with adventure and excitement. They have an opportunity with these offshoots to go in many different directions. They can go drama, dramedy, etc. as well. (although straight up comedy wouldn't work with SW unless it's animated I'd say.) The fans wont necessarily get excited like they would on a numbered film, but would work to expand the audience beyond fanboys/girls. I would watch a SW film like that personally.

For sure. :thumbsup

I just don't think a film of Obi communing with Qui-Gon would go over well at all. :lol

this may have been posted elsewhere already but here is a real contender for young Han Solo if he intends to audtion for it. Anthony Ingruber

His Harrison Ford Blade Runner impression is impressive... if you watch it long enough its uncanny how much he looks like harrison ford back in the late 60's early 70's and he is 6' so only an inch shorter than Harrison Ford

His Henry Jones Sr. and Indy one is really good

and the Han Solo he did 5 years ago:

There is a movement on facebook to get him the Han Solo part. If he can really act I can see him getting the part.

Lol. Multiple posts here about him. He definitely looks the part but I'd rather not have an impression of Han but someone who will take the role and run with it.

Well, it's a story of someone's ultimate failure, exile and waiting for the new hope of the galaxy. He's basically broken... so he has to build himself up to be able to take up the task that will eventually befall him. But, like in fairy tales, he has to wait until the prodigy seeks him out first. That is why he kept his distance and didn't train Luke from an early age. The Jedi in the PT became too... well... grounded... whereas they always seemed more mystical in the OT. Which is... in fact why I always had the belief that the Jedi knew their end was coming and most of them didn't fight it, they accepted it and let it come... but there were those who disagreed and sought out to find a way to destroy the evil that had risen in the galaxy and threatened everything and everybody, for the betterment of everyone. But... that wasn't what we got.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

would that Someone be...Yoda?? That little dude was the biggest failure. Obi sat in a big kitty litter box waiting for Luke to grow up a bit. during which he drank a ton and learned how to big sweet sand castles.

I think if they did something like that, it would be showing Obi Wan settling down on Tatooine, then going back to show a past adventure. Otherwise it cheapens the mood at the end of ROTS and Obi Wan's sacrifice of waiting alone and safeguarding Luke for 20 years. It would be like "Hey you thought this was all sad, but Obi Wan is setting out for a new wacky adventure!" :rolleyes

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

ya. would make for fun if they came up with one last adventure for him... maybe he becomes aware of some jedi that need help and he comes out of hiding and risks his undercover to seek them out to help them but ultimately fails...

They could flip it around, too, and make it a setup for the sequels and he succeeds....or, one of those, all you see is a ship explodes. No body, no real dead guy.
