Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

Improbable yes, but certainly realistic. There's still money and war in the universe, just not between nations on Earth. Much like there is peace between cities now and the countries are the ones at war. The larger the scope gets the less fighting there is over smaller areas.

In Star Trek Earth is a very small area. ;)

Yeah, but still completely unrealistic.

And no money?

I hope they roll back time to the first Jedi, imagine his surprise to find is has a mind trick when in a bar he says 'you will go on a date with me' and she says 'yes' :D

Plus pre-lightsaber battles could be cool.

Yeah, but still completely unrealistic.

I respectfully disagree. A person 500 years ago would have said our society now would be completely unrealistic but here it is.

And no money?

As I said, there's still money and bartering in the universe and it's used in every series. However with replicators it's entirely plausible that on Earth specifically (the ultimate gated community in Star Trek) it would be so rare as to be nearly non-existent.

I'm not saying Star Trek is a factual futuristic account. However it's science fiction while Star Wars is fantasy. It's in it's nature to be more realistic because everything is science based.

I love 'em both to death, but Star Wars doesn't try to be real, Star Trek does.

:lol is that really that hard to imagine? Money is a fairly new concept in human civilization, so I could see some "other" concept of exchange developing in the future. Manned deep space missions is much harder to wrap my brain around than the lack of money. :) I seriously doubt that humans will be able to bring themselves to that level of tech until we evolve past capitalism (a whole different topic) I'm not a huge fan of Trek, but it really is a "realistic" sci-fi show, no "magic" or mysticism (what the force used to be). The PT attempted to shoe-horn a quasi-science explanation into the SW story and ended up just mucking it up. I watched TOS ep#2 last night and it's (re)growing on me in a big way. (I'll take my ST obervations to another thread though)
sorry didn't mean to start a "thing" here :lol :lol :lol:popcorn
On SW, do people really want to see a Boba Fett in-between-qual?

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

There's still fighting. No way that's gonna change. Sorry, I stick to my point.

And there's still fighting in Star Trek. I never said fighting would go away, just that it's plausible it wouldn't be on Earth anymore.

You live in Europe, which is a perfect example. Who in their right mind could have imagined the EU 100 years ago? It was a pipe dream but here it is. Is it so hard to imagine that around our globe?

Yes, people are still fighting, but in larger and larger blocks. It's no longer village v. village, France v. Spain, or England v. France. That will get larger and larger as cultures homogenize and it's entirely conceivable that the Earth could become that kind of conglomeration. Then it would be Earth v. Mars colonies. Then it would get even bigger and be our solar system v. some other solar system. And on and on...

Nope. On this TMG and I are agreed! :lol

Also, you're right, Trek talk in another thread. Sorry to derail! :thumbsup

I'm ready to fight that if they keep giving me more reasons to. Worst thing ever!

(last OT post I promise! :lol)

Sure beats what was going on in Europe for the first half of the 20th century! I don't disagree that it has serious issues but the point is that they're not fighting anymore aside from politically.

Why? It's the same thing. Just not through military force. Same major players wanting to rule the world.

Sorry... this is getting political. Back to Star WARS! .)

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I'd love to see a Western style Obi movie. The Hutts are up to something no good and Obi has to step in to keep it from happening. It would match his detective work in II and III.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I like Star Trek's idea of the future, I just see it going more the Blade Runner route.

Whoever invented replicators in Star Trek probably made a ton of money. lol

I like Star Wars because it has absolutely ZERO to do with Earth in the past, present, or future. I hope that aspect never changes.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I don't see how Obi can be active betwwen ep3 and 4, he's under cover, any activity would put Luke at risk. If they do an Obi film it needs Ewan, and should be set immediately after ROTS to maintain some level of continuity.

Its a sitcom set on Tatooine. Ben tosses his hat in the air like Mary Tyler Moore in the opening credits. He is gonna make it after all!
