Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Post-release)

Love how you put "fans" in quotes, as if one must uncritically accept anything SW to be a true believer. Someone take a sharp stick and write "Admiral Ackbar" on a cat turd fast so I can eat it! :lol I'm glad some people love this movie. I hope it makes a bajillion dollars so we get more SW. And perhaps it will grow on me. But I certainly don't feel like my lifelong fandom is in question over one movie I consider blah.

But as a general film,....it is well received,...it doesn't need a repair job,....the DC films get SE versions for home release because they cant get it right for cinematic release & they try to patch things up

The only people that are disappointed are a section of Star Wars fans

J

Even in the pseudo-military hierarchy of The Empire, Vader's role is that of a commander, not a combat soldier unless the situation calls for it. As such, in the opening scenes of ANH he's issuing orders to his troops rather than actively participating in the boarding of the Tantive IV. That being said...
"

It was established in the clone wars that Skywalker was the general who always led his clones into battle from the front. That was why his 501st were so devoted to him

Okay, fair enough. From that perspective it's probably not worth Disney's bother to tinker. The movie generally HAS been well received. Also, as with Marvel, in a few years we'llbe glutted with these flicks, so one or two an individual is less fond of won't carry as much weight. When there's 23 SW movies, an occasional stinker won't be an emotional blow to fans. I thought AoU and Civil War were a snooze, but I'll still rent Dr. Strange and will catch GotG2 opening weekend.

First off, I want to say that it was probably to most fully realized design we've ever seen in star wars. It both, connected the galaxy and expanded it at the same time. (Something TFA did not do. The prequels did this but it was far more subtle)
I loved seeing the juggernaut used.

But the biggest design fail was having krennic show up at the beginning with the same costume, shuttle and squad of troopers that he would have ten years later. Big fail on that.

Vader, Palps & Tarkin all look the same at the end of ROTS as they do in the OT

I've been wearing the same uniform for the past 15 years (in between washes of course)

Am I losing my mind? Was the scene where she is on the tower and a tie fighter pops up not in the final movie?

Too much fan service for my taste.

Cgi Leia was creepy and too happy.

Vader was over the top during his hallway scene.

The octopus monster really frightened my 8 yr old son.

If death star can hyper in and shoot that fast, why not do that to rebel base moon in episode 4?

Laser machine gun way over powered. Why didn't everyone carry one of those?

Star destroyers are way too easy to take out.

U wing just swung wings whenever. No purpose.

Why did they have at-act's? Let's build atats that could have large holes in them!

Was the shield around planet an homage to space balls?. Where was the vacuum cleaner?

New ties not shown enough. What was their purpose?

Why didn't Vader go ballistic in the beginning of ANH?

Easy. He didn't have to.

R1: He had to get to the ship they believed had the plans then find and get/destroy the plans before they got away. Time is/was of the essence. Must do it quick or lose the plans. So, Enter, Vader going nuts on the crew to get the plans before they're gone or re-transmitted god knows where.

ANH: Ship was captured and going no where. He HAD the plans. "You guys, go thrash the crew and bring me the leaders". They believed they had unlimited time to find and destroy the plans. Vader didn't need to jump through that door and start playing japanese steak house chef with the crew. They were all captives - including the ship.

One of several trailer moments that didn't make final cut. It didn't ruin the film for me.

They could have cut out two or three moments. I would have been fine had they done almost none. The 3po and r2 moment and the thug from tatooine cantina were over the top.

Cgi Leia was creepy and too happy.
I agree. It's hard to get past when she's the closing shot of the movie.

Vader was over the top during his hallway scene.
It didn't bother me one bit. It was Vader doing all the stuff I ever wished he would do. I liked it so much I don't need to construct a rationale to explain it.

The octopus monster really frightened my 8 yr old son.
When I was 12 I accidentally sat in on a viewing of Night of the Living Dead and was beyond terrified. I learned it builds character. I let my daughters watch scary stuff if they want.

In ep4 maybe they just had to hyper in on the far side of the sun because it was in the path. Naturally they had to wait until the orbit gave them a line of sight.

Laser machine gun way over powered. Why didn't everyone carry one of those?
It's probably the equivalent of the modern squad automatic weapon. Maybe a person equipped with this heavy weapon is so encumbered they're not going to move very fast. This would be a problem for troopers who need to be mobile and carry lots of kit and armor.

Star destroyers are way too easy to take out.
At least it wasn't as bad as RotJ where one was taken out by a suicide fighter.

U wing just swung wings whenever. No purpose.
Obviously it permits the alluvial dampers to cool faster. Duh.

Why did they have at-act's? Let's build atats that could have large holes in them!
So automatic aiming at center of mass will miss?
Nah. I assumed that, because it's a transport vehicle, this one has an open bay to transport large vehicles and equipment.

Was the shield around planet an homage to space balls?. Where was the vacuum cleaner?
I didn't think of that. Thanks for ruining it for me, buddy.

New ties not shown enough. What was their purpose?
Last generation model? Different government contractor? These are optimized for orbital combat as opposed to deep space? I donno. Pick one.

I realize I'm one of the most critical people here when it comes to Disney, but I loved the artoo and threepio cameo. It made some sense that they were there on the base.

Unlike ponda baba, Dr. Evizan, blue milk and the fact that moisture farms are everywhere.

On earth we have our water brought to us in pipes,...in Star Wars they get there own clean water from the air,......& if you can turn that into a business on a dry planet go for it?

I understand the practicality of it, but for the purpose of narrative, it was a way of letting the audience know that tatooine was the most desperate and forgotten planet in the galaxy.

It was almost a joke.

But here, on a planet that looks incredibly damp, the erso home was there to just echo the Lars farm.

You must be a lot of fun to go to the movies with, lol.

Actually although both his uniforms were white if you look closely they ARE different from the first scene and the rest. In the first scene the material looks much heavier and looks pretty wrinkled. The top of his chest under his head is different. After that, it is a smoother material and he looks much better. IMO, this just shows the different points in his career and how it seems that he rode higher in the chain on the back of Erso's accomplishments.

He kind of says it a bunch. He had to have Erso and he is the lead scientist directing weapon stuff and time and time again Krennic says "I delivered this to you, I did it, I did it." (not a direct quote but you catch my drift)

I'd love an SE blu-ray that refines Tarkin's and Leia's CGI. That's not to say that either of them were unimpressive, but there was just enough uncanny-valley to take me out of the moment.

But as some of you noted, Disney probably won't refine because they don't have to. They will sell a ****-ton of tickets and a ****-ton of DVDs/blu-rays/digital copies without needing to put one more penny into refining the film.

Yeah, the rising Tie Fighter was not there. Kinda bummed as I really wanted to see the outcome of that encounter.

Leia was a little off, but I wonder how much of the Tarkin criticism is expectation. Did some go in knowing he would be in there and look specifically for cg tells?

Having actually managed to avoid the trailers and spoilers I had no idea he was coming and his appearance floored me. Same with gold leader. I think some knew going in where cg was and where old footage was and we're looking for it. If it took you by surprise I think you'd be more likely to enjoy it.

I'd bet that the TIE was just about to blast Jyn when a Rebel pilot picked it off. I wonder if they nixed it because we did not have a pilot like a Luke, Han or Poe to make the last-minute save a little more satisfying. If Hera really was there in the Ghost, that maybe could have worked, but I could also see that called out (rightly) as pure fanboy appeasement.
