Robocop Reboot (Pre-release)

I think if you put the original Robocop in the ring against this new one, the original would make short work of him. Also, is there a strong main villain? Boddicker was an excellent bad guy. Is it too late to make this movie Rated-R?

I think the enemy is probably Omni... kind of like it was before, but without the shady criminals helping out behind the scenes.
Can't say for sure until it comes out though.

That's because the original had writing and subtle storylines. This one pretty much just hands you everything on a silver platter and wants to job on the big companies are evil bandwagon.

I knpw a couple people that were on the original film, it was a mess short of a disaster production. They were actually shut down by the powers that be and a rough cut of existing footage demanded... The original had a vision and worked based on the world around us at that period in time. Just as with EFNY, a remake isnt needed.

I agree with the article, it sure looks like a ripoff of the Prometheus TED talk.

Meh... it was more like a commercial than the TED speech from Prometheus. It didn't have scale of the Prometheus one with the huge stadium setting, the photoflashes, the audience... and Guy Pierce who is pretty "larger than life" admirable and so smug you just want to punch him all at the same time. Not to mention that TED spech was obviously kind of a viral prequel since he's a crusty old man in the actual movie.

I definitely agree it would have had a larger impact had they used Michael Keaton instead of whoever that guy is... looks like a clone of Allstate's Mayhem with a beard. I also don't like when they used "stock" footage from the movie for those instead of used some new/unused footage. Seems cheesy when they recycle stuff like that.

Either way... I'm getting pretty stoked about seeing this movie. I've gotten past the fact that it won't be the original and will more than likely have a myriad of plot holes and leave me with something less than what I had hoped for... but it's really the only thing coming out next month worth looking forward too. It'll be a holdover until April when Captain America comes out.

It looks like they made the trailer on the cheap. Is it me or is that security robot they showed earlier in his speech cooler looking that robocop? lol. actually it looks like they just stick his head on a spare droid body.

Yeah, I think that was because back then, that's how people thought robots move (or will move in the future), so it made sense at that time. Today, real robots move already more fluidly, and our goal is for them to mimic perfectly human movements, so it makes sense for us today to imagine robots (or cyborg) move very much like a human or even better, faster and more agile than a human. Wouldn't make sense to keep the 80's vision of the future, when our vision has changed today.
With that said, I'm very skeptical of their soundtrack in this clip, and I don't find it very thrilling overall. That's coming from a guy who didn't see the original nor care for it. Gonna wait the reviews before I see it, if I can find some objective ones not infested with nostalgia for the first film.

Sadly, I predict this movie will suck. We have a black suited Iron Man and a squad of silver plated robots from "I Robot".

Kids today will probably never watch the original. This will be the only version of Robocop they know.

Well, about fifty high school kids a year from rural NH see it in my Film Studies class...keeping the flame, man.

The music in that new clip is ridiculous. Just silly. And Murphy quipping? Ugh. I'm back to passing on this.
