Robocop Reboot (Pre-release)

4th trailer and the best so far. I have to say, I have my doubts, but this trailer is the first to really let me think that this movie might *might be alright after all!

It made me skeptical again. If he knows who and what he is from the start, what's the character's arc? The original had a man turned into a machine struggling to regain his humanity. If you wanted to go all English major, there's some pretty heavy stuff in that transition. If he's self aware from day one...where does he go from there? I have my grumpy hat on again about this one.

I decided that I'm approaching this like I did the remake of Total Recall and Dredd - I'm not expecting it to be the old movie, but a new movie with things that I'm familiar with. Then the expectations change and it can be whatever it is on it's own rather than have to live up to a pre-established expectation that it could never live up to.

I see where you're coming from there. That's probably the best attitude. I really liked Dredd (thought Total Recall was a mess). Whatever it is won't take away the original, just as Robocop 3 or the TV shows didn't haha.

Yeah... definitely going into it not expecting it to live up to the original and being a new take on the concept.

I still don't like Kinneman as Murphy at all.

However, I don't think there's any way this movie could be worse than Robocop 3. That was just embarassing.

I actually preferred one of the earlier trailers more, especially when Gary Oldman's character talked about having "the illusion of free will" and later on someone else said "he is overriding the system". It made me think there was more to this movie than capitalizing by slapping the Robocop name on an imitation Iron Man.

I did like seeing Jackie Earl Haley, Jay Baruchel, and Michael K. William (Chalky White) in the new trailers though.

I will undoubtedly prefer the original far more, and I agree with the comments in this thread regarding how movie makers don't seem to care about quality, only marketing, but I guess I am part of the problem, because I will most likely go see this.

Kenner did this figure years ago. :)

Some Japanese company did this even before that. ;)

I think your right, that would explain the visor too. Wider range of visibility for action scenes and whatnot.

Here is a high res version: (open image in new tab to go even larger)

Same scene with some of my el-cheapo photoshop cgi to remove the wide visor (they could probably do much better in post-production):

I am hoping the silver armor "snaps" on over the black, base armor to upgrade it.

So normally he is stealthier, faster, but can bulk up with the more traditional silver armor at times.

I think I've heard of Haley because of that terrible Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I don't watch very many movies made after about the year 2000.

I'm a huge Fan of many old 80's Films though I also accept Remakes. Franköy speaking there are quite a few Remakes which i like better than the original like the hills have eyes, TCM (except that Piece of 3D **** ;-)) and stuff. But from all that I've Seen from robocop 2014 so far this one will definetly be a huge disappointment...

Some pretty slick figures for the new one...

Also a figure for the all black one everyone hates.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the black version of the suit actually looks better on the toy than the real thing does? The toy has a nice sheen to it that seems to be lacking on the actual suit used on screen and I think that's what's missing from the suit, a metallic or glossy sheen, the matte finish on the real suit makes it look fake and too much like a suit and not his body.
