Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

Can you buy the tubes as singles? I've seen them online in packs. How much? I know chapstick is only about a dollar or so for the lip balm at the store, I may compare the sizes of that to the other brands to see if the tubes are different at all. What are the measurements that are needed for that so I know what I'm looking for.

Don't know if you can get singles.
On Etsy you can get about 10 for about $5.

The Blistex Fruit Smoothies tube is the exact size (accept for the beveled end piece) but the knurling at the end needs to be filled or replaced.
5/8" dia x 2 1/4" long.

Great find on the bag. A bit of good news, I found the bags at my local Target for 50 % off ! The only down side (for some perhaps) is that they are NOT real leather. The inside IS real though. The two have been laminated. I thought it was a very good imitation leather though.

Anyone have info. on the left shoulder cap material ? I've looked at several options. But I'm having a hard time finding something that will fray on the ends right.

Found this in the accessories department at Target where the scarves, packs and purses are.
I figure 2 of them should yield enough material to make the back pack.

Anyone having luck with fabrics or patterns? I'm getting itchy to get started on mine, but I still feel rather lost outside of the fabrics listed from the Celebration display case (and my previous posts on Dharma Trading fabric), not to mention patterns....Confession time: I am horrible at sewing. So the thought of trying to draft a pattern from a pre-existing Henley shirt makes me nervous. I'm planning on working with a friend who's good at sewing to make this costume, but I need to make sure I have all the materials together before then.

No patterns yet.
I may just make my own.
Patterned out the pack and greeblies already.

I found other sites with the hemp/jersey and in stock.

Had a piece of leather bookmarked but it sold, I'll have to pay more through Tandy Leather.

I found a place with the jersey in stock, but they never shipped. When i called about it, the customer service was terrible. I ended up finding some basic jersey locally i can get the hemp later, or the one i got may be fine.

Division 6 - Oh! Where did you find that hemp/jersey? The one from Dharma Trading is perfect (but of course, sold out). I've been trying to find another one, but they don't quite look the same. I appreciate help, good sir. :)

Here's what I did for the rangefinder, Didn't use the articulated arm in order to save weight. The turning's hollow also.
For the Henley I bought a woman's long tail Henley t shirt from Duluth Trading. My daughter's pretty good with the sewing machine so she'll modify it to fit my granddaughter. It's cotton, not cotton/hemp.

For those wondering about patterns, maybe I can help? I found a bunch of Simplicity patterns that I'm going to use for my Rey (conveniently, Hancock Fabrics had Simplicity patterns on sale for $1.99 a week or two ago, woo!). No point in keeping these secret! :)

Henley:
Simplicity 1461 (base/henley neck)
Simplicity 1425 (I'm using this pattern just for the sleeves, but as it seems we're still unclear as to whether the sleeves are attached to the shirt...hmmm)

Pants:
Simplicity 2061 (might go one size up to raise the leg height)

Headwrap:
Simplicity 1317 (well they said it was a long sleeve shirt...)

Disclaimer: I haven't had a chance to experiment with butchering these patterns, so these are all just ideas. My only qualifications involve using similar butchering skills to make Marvel/DC characters, i.e. Wasp, Phoenix, 2014 Batgirl. Feel free to throw suggestions around!

WinsomeWasp, thanks for the pattern numbers. I'll check them out

Lady Nerd, sorry about not getting back on the fabric, I wanted to make sure I had it ordered before I posted so I didn't miss out. (it's happened a few times already)
That said I ordered from Hemp Traders this morning at 4 am (PST) and received a shipping notice already (11:41am PST).
$9.86 a yard.

Couple others
Natures Fabrics at $16.49 a yard
Organic Cotton Plus "27 to 30-inches, tubular" $11:80 a yard
There where several I saw that offered it in a tube form but since the top was clearly hand stitched on the sides a regular flat piece will work better.

The up side is even if you are sloppy it will be authentic. :D

Westarsmith I envy your having access to a lathe.
I like what you have done so far, :thumbsup

Looking at a picture I posted from the SDCC trailer I noticed that we can see what's happening with the back of the sash (dress)
It just touches edges right where the top belt passes over it.

So it turns out what I thought was happening back there was correct.

Wish I could get a high res pic of that since you can also see part of the belt attachments.

my pants arrived and I am relieved to see that the colour matches te rest of my fabrics. I got my fabrics at the local fabric markets en fabric stores (ordering from the States will cost me a small fortune, so I'll do with what I can find here :) )

Since I was inbetween sizes for the pants I decided to size up (I can always take it in)

I cut the pants and used the left over fabric for the wraps around the legs. It still needs some work but I am happy with the progress. I just think that I need to take in the pants a bit, it looks a bit too wide.

Something going on with the belt. looks like it folds over and has a piece go through it like on the cuff.
