Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

The head covering has a lot of texture to it.
I haven't found anything close yet.

I am about to go to work, I will check the stretch in the morning. I know its mostly cotton, so I don't know how much it will. But elastic could fix that, or a hidden button. I also found a pattern for sleepwear that had a henley style top that could probably be altered for the top, and it was cheap.

I've been following this thread for a while now and you girls did some amazing finds. I ordered the pants (well an American friend of mine did and he will ship them to me) and I am going to email about the boots. Those boots are so cool!

Thank you all for great information here.

I bought the Natural Cotton Fabric from Dharma, and it seems perfect to me! It has a lot of texture when washed as shown in the "washed" photo, and is thicker than your typical fabric, but still very light. It stretches and twists beautifully:

Be sure to buy extra yardage because it shrinks. I bought 3, then cut it lengthwise and spliced it together, to save $. This is a lazy wrapping job I did just to try everything out, but it was 1am so I wasn't trying very hard. I followed the instructions to wrap it that someone posted here:

The best idea head wise is to use something that's mildly strechy. My head piece doesn't strech and wow is it hard to keep on

That´s looking great already...looks like a VERY close match for the fabric they used on Reys costume. Anything else ready to show?

Ahh, I am not alone in trying to get a version ready for SDCC and stabbing themselves while attempting to sew leather... If you see another Rey that looks similar feel free to say hi! haha. I modded the knockoff Uggs that I posted about earlier in the thread. I didn't take any progress pics but this was the final result:

I basically removed all of the toggles and then ripped the seams out of one side of the boot so it was open on both sides. I cut the fur down a bit but I definitely need to take more. I eventually gave up on trying to sew through the leather and ended up using this really great instant tear mender to glue the fabric to the boots.

Again, a couple things I would've done differently with more time, but I'm really happy with it.

And the one shoulder bag as seen in some of the film stills.

I decided to do the shoulder bag because I was doing her more basic costume and I thought it would be a great bag to have for the Exhibit Hall

I also bought and altered the P37 signal satchel, altered those pants from Forever 21, etc. I lucked out on the shirt front because I already owned a long henley from Target that was perfect once I cut the sleeves off and switched the buttons out for twine. There were definitely some choices I would have made differently if I wasn't trying so hard to have it for Comic Con but I think I'll have time to improve on those in time for NYCC and also add the rest of the costume I didn't get to (gloves, leg wraps, goggles/head wrap). I'll say the one thing I'm most unhappy with for SDCC is the color of the wrap dress. The dye I used didn't turn out like expected (even after a swatch test dye!) and I'll definitely be trying to remedy that before New York.

I'll be in my kylo ren a lot of the weekend. Id love to have a rey to hang out with for awhile!! I'm kicking myself for not bringing my rey costume to SDCC..

Got in some nice dusty vintage 1944 Enfield slings today.
Gloves arrived a few days ago, now I just need to mod and weather them.

I was looking at the sling and attachment points and did up this rough diagram of the construction. (not to scale)
It's 4 strips and a D ring riveted together and the snaps.
The D ring is free floating in the middle.

Interesting notes.
they are 2 different colors, one looks like it had a coat of white added then weathered off. (seen on the bottom at SWC7)
They also switch positions depending on the scene.

The sling seen at the exhibit is not the one used in the film.
The one in the film loops back on itself where the one on exhibit was a single strip extended at the shoulder.

I feel like they are teasing us with her costume. Just a bit shown to confuse us more. I can see there is no seem on the shoulder and the wrap pieces look to be separate to me now since they don't appear to be crossed in the back as originally thought.

The tunic looks like two separate pieces the way the sleeves are seamless, and slightly lighter. Though I don't see where it would be separate at the arm pit or anywhere else.

I think they do it on purpose to make us scratch our heads and go crazy trying to make it look right.

I noticed that they seem to add and subtract pieces from scene to scene.

Extra wraps around the head and body.
That back pouch tends to disappear, mainly for sitting scenes.
The wraps on her legs move up and down a lot also.

No continuity at all.
They even reverse shots several times throwing things off.
The speeder bike is a prime example.

While some things make sense, like wraps not being identical from day to day, it gives a realistic element to her outfit for me. Even though she's seen wearing the same clothes, they are shown slightly different "day to day" she may wrap the leg different or take off a pouch for comfort. While it makes for a realistic costume it drives costumers nuts.

I read an interview with Filoni that said he changed things up sometimes to mess with costumers. I wonder if JJ is the same way.

I was just scaling out the laser thingy on the head piece and while looking around the house for something the correct diameter I discovered that a tube of Blistex chap stick is the correct diameter and length accept for the beveled front.

A regular "Chap Stick" brand tube is longer but if you remove the textured wheel and 1/8" of the cap you will have a smoother overall tube.
The tube / cap seam will be hidden under the liner tape.
