Lynn, you realy need to post a pic of the new view port! I'm going to do this as well and it would be great to see how it turned out!
Steve.

Looking good buddy!!
I'm not really understanding all what your doing to the butt tub, but it looks cool.

I'll try to tonight Steve.

The shape of the main body I kept the same, I just shrunk down the window, that alone changed it's appearance immensly.

Lynn

Thanks dudes!

Lynn, there's actually quit a lot to build on the back of the tub. Viewd from the side this sucker is really thick!

Here's pic to ilustrate. Please note that this casting is broken half way down (from the red line).

And here's a pic of another model, from the other side though.

Your killing me here!!

Here are pics of my heads window made smaller.

It looks much better.

Lynn

Lynn, I agree, it's a real difference! Looks great, must have been a real pain building those straight lines with putty!

BTW, here's the finished tub, primed and ready to go!

I'm in a real roll now and will probably have more to show tomorrow!

Steve.

Man i would have shown you earlier If i had know you were detailing it that well!

Steve

Ron, thanks a lot! I wonder were we would all be though if it wasn't for someones marvelous kit!
icon_wink.gif

Steve N, You..oh..ARGH..THE HUMANITY!!!! Seriously, just kidding!
icon_lol.gif
I don't have that kit and I didn't have any more money to spend on kits...I wonder why.
icon_wink.gif
My scratch built parts will have to do for now. Sharp eye though!
icon_smile.gif

BTW, what else was used from the "Karl Morse"?

Steve.

Thanks Ron!! Your kit has helped make a dream of mine come true!

Steve.... I used a Dremal cut off wheel and a steady hand to make the window lines crisper..

Lynn

OK, just finished the new front armor! I really think this did wonder for the over all look. First, the plate now mounts further back. Second, it allows the neck to mount further down and not in the middle like it did before. Third, it now has the correct patterns.

I thought this replace would be fairly easy but boy was I wrong! Making the new plate was a no brainer BUT NOT removing the old! This kit is VERY well constructed and it took me an entire day worth of work with a hack saw and a Dremmel.

Worth it in the end though.

Steve.

Hi Steve

I have a question for you. Would it not have been easier for you just to build the body from scratch, than to have done these mods?

BTW Once my AT-AT was assembled I compared the proportions to the studio pictures and found that the neck is too slim. Will you be modifiing that as well?

I love the work you've been doing,
icon_biggrin.gif
but you have way much more time than I to put on this model.

Keep up the good work!!!
Pat

Well, I believe that it wouldn't. You see I really like the over all shape of it, plus it provides a good strong base that I didn't have to waste time on.

I haven't really thought much about the neck yet. I was really hoping that I could use the one provided but well see.

Thanks a lot for your kind words, you're doing a bang up job yourself! However, I really HATE the title of your thread!
icon_wink.gif
Believe me, there's no "avarage Joe" at all to this kit!
icon_lol.gif
It's WAY beyond avarage straight from the box!

Steve.

Well, wish me luck!
I've fully decided to go Steve's route and repalce all my panels as Steve has done with his in styrene.
I've made patterns and I have started cutting the styrene sides.

THis is a fun project....... Nothign like pushing your modeling skills to the limits..

Lynn

OK, back to some material hunting!
icon_smile.gif

Anybody have any idea what they used for the neck material!!?? Or rather any lead on something that might work? By the look of this pic my guess would be that they made the neck from.....FUDGE!

Steve,

Good news... Bad news.. Good news first..

The neck material for the Studio Scale ATATs is Alluminum Pre heater hose found at your local auto shop. Its the bendable hose that conects the carb to the exhaust manfold.
I'll send you enought to do 4 ATATS with the parts castings Im gonna send you.

Bad news is the ATAT Ron is out of scale to the studio model ie the ATATRON is large to make the 2" hose look right. If you add it it looks like a chicken neck..kinda funny ligh the neck is tolong but its actually the size of the hose itself.

You would almost need a 2.75" heater hose to make it look right. Ive searched and connot find that size hose. Maybe you can check where your at. 2" is the standard and is a perfect fit with the smaller studio scale minature.

The other Steve

Are they any discoveries or ideas on the "ladder" on the side?
ladder.jpg

To me, it looks like "L" shaped, possibly "T", shaped Plastruct styrene strips.

It doesn't look like model parts.
I "may" use the Plastruct "L" strips for it.

Any ideas?

Lynn

Steve N, that's a great find! To bad it's to small though. It's very kind of you to send me one, when I get it I'll show it around here and maybee someone has a lead on a larger diameter.

Lynn, I agree with you, it's probably stock styrene material. I scratch built a master for my model which I had my buddy to cast.

Big problem with that 2.75" size though.

I just checked the head measurment, it measures in at 2" 9/16" at it's tallest point at the back of the head.
The hose would be 3/16" too big unless you want to squish it and then it would look funny, the best you can do is 2.5" to fit in the back of the head, then it will be extremly tight.
Lynn

Guys I was just estimating the size of the ATATRON head from memory when i was building mine. Still when all is said and done the 2" material used on the real walkers is to small.

So what ever measurement is that would fit the neck ring and tube on the ATATRON is what is required. If you guys find something that size be sure to post it.. try 2.5 inch or something simular to that number.

Steve

Here is a couple pics of sides redone in styrene...

Sorry for the small pics, but this is the biggest I can get on WC's pic service.
