Rediscovering TIMECOP and my vote for a remake.

Gone but not forgotten.
So my son was digging through my dvds and pulled this one out of the bunch. It was still in shrinkwrap from when I picked it up for a whopping 3 bucks when Hollywood Video went OOB. He and I sat down and got ready for some Van Damage. I hadn't even seen this movie since it came out, so it was almost like watching it for the first time for both of us and I have to say - I really like this film. The stuff at the beginning, stealing gold from the confederacy and the wall street swindler was pure gold and the story was pretty well put together - especially for a Van Damme flick. The fight in the kitchen with the splits to avoid electric shock had us both laughing as well as some of Ron Silver's lines - calling his younger self an idiot - made me miss that guy even more now that he's gone. the bad guys were ridiculous - here they were from 2004 and they were dressed in the best Chess King had to offer - in both clothes and hairstyle. This movie needs a reboot - but only if it's as fun as the original. I've never read the comics so I may give them a go. My son now has me looking for a TEC PATCH and PIN so he can jazz up his jacket - already posted in the junkyard. That whole action formula is dead now - i could really use a few more rediscovered gems to take me back now and then. If you haven't seen this movie in a while - give it a chance again - sure it's predictable, but what isn't.

I think Timecop is probably Van Damme's best movie. I need to pick it up on Blu-Ray since the DVD is pan and scan crappo.

The original is fine no remake please.

I didn't even know there was a tv show. I'll have to look for it now. Anyone here ever see part 2 with Jason Lee?

I seen and have part 2 and it sucks, Messy story jumping and not as fun as the first one.
I'm like Jet beetle and think that the stealing gold from the confederacy intro is SO COOL. Wish they did elaborated on that a bit more, a little like Timeline.

Yeah, the gold stealing scene was one of my favorites too. Definitely would have been cool to have seen more of that in the movie.

I liked the movie at the time quite a bit. There's just one thing that has always bugged me about it though - I don't understand the time-sled thing. They get in the time-sled, rocket down the tracks and then are seen STEPPING through some kind of shimmering effect... no more time-sled. Then when they go back into the future, poof, they're back in the time-sled. That part just made no sense to me. Is there some kind of time-sled parking lot outside of space-time?

The gun prop they used - that modified Beretta - has also shown up in tons of other shows however. Definitely a cool design.

and don't forget that when they return I seem to remember that it has changed direction.

I always wondered about the sled. It really does not make a lot of sense. Either use the warp effect or have the sled but not both. I have to say though it would look pretty silly having the sled drop them off somewhere.

:lol

Yeah, they could paint it yellow with a cab light on the top... change the name to "TimeCab."

Wait... maybe I should write a script on that concept. I bet SyFy would make it into one of their Saturday night specials, particularly if it had some kind of dual-animal hybrid (like Sharktopus or Mansquito) and some women in bikinis getting killed by it.

Regardless, it's still my favorite Van Damme movie although Hard Target wasn't too bad for some cheesy Van Dammage either. :p

I've always appreciated Syd Mead's designs for Timecop. The weapons, the sled, etc.

I remember being fond of the "return module" prop.

Where does that sled go?!

Need to re-watch this sometime soon. :)

It just showed up on View Instantly on Netflix in HD. I had to laugh at the 2004 cars and how no one recognizes someone who is 10 years older. Though I loved it when I was 15.
