Rebels Freddie Prinze Jr. Star Wars rant

The fact that there is a massive Jedi Temple on Coruscant, not to mention other planets, shows you that you NEED training to fully use the Force. Anakin could use it to some extent as a kid because he was using it, without knowing it, while podracing. It's not canon, but I think in one of the books (Luke or Obi Wan) said that if you aren't trained you might just be more lucky or be better athletically.

Actually the fact there's a massive Jedi Temple, means that they carry religious activities. Not necessarily train. An academy or school would be better suited for that.

Yoda is training a group of toddlers in aotc. Training isn't just a matter of learning to fight. It's learning about the Force.

Very true. But remember they don't have an awakened Force backing them up. The Jedi, thanks to a Sith shrine under the Temple are losing their connection to the Force at that time.

lol So in the other movies the Force was just asleep during the whole Sith/Jedi thing? C'mon man. That is more ridiculous than anything ever to come out of the old EU.

After the Galactic Civil War, the cosmic Force became dormant and was seemingly quieted to those who could sense its presence. Turbulence within the cosmic Force coincided with the awakening of latent Force abilities in individuals such as Rey.

Wow.

First, just because some is called a temple doesn’t mean it’s for religion and no training. Real life example, Shaolin Temples. They arnt called Shaolin Academies or Shaolin school.

Jedi are similar to Shaolin monks, they learn about the force like a religion but they also train in its use.

Tapping into the force is not mastery, just like learning math does not equal mastery. A person studies math for a year to learn basic arithmetic, another year to learn algebra, another to learn geometry, etc.

Let’s put telekinesis like this. Move a small pebble is basic arithmetic, moving a lightsaber is algebra, moving an x-wing is geometry, moving several pebbles is trig, etc. Jedi train for years and slowly acquire these skills and masters like Einstein use their knowledge to further push the barriers of the force.

Rey went from not knowing any math to having a PhD level proficiency cause she was exposed to it once.

And the force potential was strong, she just needed to control it is silly. Anakin is basically a being created from the force and is pretty much the force in human form. In his duel against Obi Wan in episode 3, Anakin and Obi Wan’s Force push clash was equal since despite Anakin’s greater potential, Obi Wan’s greater proficiency covered that gap (Obi Wan is confirmed to have lower force proficiency than Anakin). There are “levels” of proficiency which Rey skipped to mastery.

Also, gamification is a concept being applied to education, etc as a better way to measure progress.

It’s not a false equivalency of adding RPG elements because it doesn’t make sense but a tool used to clarify the user’s progress in achieving a certain task or proficiency, the greater clarification thereby encouraging the user to keep on going.

Didn’t want to spam but I’m also hating the current narrative that the sequels are better because they are more diverse than the original trilogy.

Lucas originally wanted Toshiro Mifune (actor for Musashi in Kurosawa films) back when Hollywood was predominantly white actors only (this fact made me love Lucas more since he was paying homage to Japan as well. Probably a big reason why Japan loves Star Wars).

It wasn’t Lucas’ fault that the actor turned down the role or that he may have faced an uphill challenge with diversity due to the Hollywood landscape.

Lando wasn't written any particular ethnicity, and McQuarrie's concept art depicted him as white. BDW just happened to be the perfect actor for the role, so he was cast. Star Wars dodges a lot of the ethnic (or gender or sexuality or etc.) issues in characterization by being set when and where it is. I'm frustrated female pilots were filmed for ROTJ but left out of the finished film because higher-ups felt audiences would react badly to seeing women in danger and blown up in combat. That is, in fact, sexist.

Ironically, a lot of the "Empire is sexist" stuff from the EU just comes from male actors being cast as Imperials in the OT because... well, they're military and it's the late '70s in England -- who else are you gonna cast?

And then there's the matter of a lot of non-male or non-white actors (or both) who end up under make-up or prosthetics, so we don't realize it. Famously:

Diversity has gotten easier to do in Star Wars, but it's been there throughout to the extent they've been able to depending on the production's surroundings.

Most of what's done today isn't diversity, it's pandering. Star Wars was plenty diverse. It just wasn't done to cater to a particular political demographic. It wasn't done to make people feel good. The best people got the roles, full stop. It paid no attention to race or gender or anything else. It just made good movies.
