Randy Cooper 38" Star Destroyer Kit

Re: ESB Star Destroyer Commisson (24" - 38")?

If I may, I would recommend Julien Ceresa (Monsieur Tox), just over the water from you... in France. ;)

His 41" beast impressed me well. ;)

I would also recommend Matt Meyer (Max Zepher) for such a project!

BOTH have produced BEAUTIFUL Star Destroyers!

And then there is Richard Long (REL)! He does the majority of any scratch work I have done.

I would love to see what comes of this...

Good Luck!

My concerns about it are:

• Will the resin hull plates sag over time? There is no armature. I'd be happier paying extra on the kit for plexiglass/acrylic hull plates - well worth the extra expense.

• Will the molded resin carry the detail? Look at the undercut in the trench parts! :eek

I've been watching developments on it with interest. Does look good - but will it cut the mustard? We shall see. :)

Is it? Perhaps a moderator will move it.

It's been stated here that the '3-footer' is actually 4'5", or 53". I don't buy the assertion in the Chronicles that it's a 1/350th scale model of a 300+ metre ship. It just works out too nicely as a 1/1200th scale model of a ship 1 mile (5280') long.

RC's ISD goes on pre-order within a week. Limited to a run of x20! :eek

And then there's that 3 foot SULACO... :love

Then the Attack of the Clones unique, 'never been done before' commission build I'm getting. Gonna be v skint v soon! :wacko

Did he mention the price?

If you are worried about the Resin sagging for the hull "sheets" you could always back the hull plating with some fairly cheap and easy to cut plywood or if you want to go overboard some sheet acrylic, from your local Home Depot. I thought about the stability of resin over the long run of the hull as well, and if after seeing the end result think that it will sag that's my plan...reinforcement that will never even be seen. as for the trench undercuts - Randy's work is pretty good when it comes to making the masters - he knows how to avoid the undercut problem from viewing his previous work - although I admit the trenches and superstructure of the SD have more undercuts then his previous subjects. I have faith that it will the a superb kit - and if its not it will be a great start to a "refurbishment" :love For the price he's charging - its worth it for the basic shapes and details IMHO. If it exceeds that - so much the better.

Can it be filled with expanding foam once you assemble the main hulls to avoid sagging?

I can't imagine why it couldn't GF. It's just a big open space in there. I was gonna do a bit of both in mine. Cut some plexi braces and then foam. I'm only planning to illuminate the engines and the open bay on the underside. Mine will be modelled much more like ANH than ESB (though it has more details than ANH). I plan to convert it. :)

Latest reveals that the hull will be rotocast in one piece...

Re: ESB Star Destroyer Commisson (24" - 38")?

I'm just gonna cut some braces and set them from back to front inside the hollow shell.......then run some PVC for conduit thru those......and reinforce the walls of the resin with spray foam. I should think that would keep her from sagging........ and still leave it lightweight enough.
