Re: ESB Star Destroyer Commisson (24" - 38")?

Yep that is I will do on mine once complete and all fibers glued. Spray foam is great ! (and cheap :p)

Re: ESB Star Destroyer Commisson (24" - 38")?

Pssst - only FOUR pre-order slots remaining as I write....

Nice!!!

With every updates it get's better and better, I'm glad I'm on the list on this one.

I couldn't agree more. There are very few projects that make me more happy as progress continues........LOL. It's usually the opposite for me. Like the MR protos........always perfect, then they make their "improvements".............."Shudder!!!!!". Randy is quite the artisan.

Re: ESB Star Destroyer Commisson (24" - 38")?

RC's ISD goes on pre-order within a week. Limited to a run of x20! :eek

This is incorrect Eagle... there will be more made later on, but the push was for the initial run of 20, NOT that Randy's only doing 20 of them.....

I'm thinking about contacting Randy to see if I can visit his work area since he's local.... I'd be Very interested to see his work-in-progress in person!

Yes, a pre-order of 20.

In case y'all didnt know.
I am handling sales for Randy,..as usual.

We did a "pre-order" of 20 units to finance the remainder of the project.
It is typical of how we produce Randys kits.

The master is still a month or two from being finished, and then comes the daunting task of making it a viable resin kit.
the first 20 will go to the pre-order folk and then it will be in production for anyone who wants one. No set limit at this time.

Awesome reply:lol
If that was the plan, may I give some advice? You should have done a preorder of 50 instead of 20. Why limit the trip money - you're not thinking ahead.:love Between living in Belize and buying a supply of fake beards to stay hidden, you are going to be broke soon.

Hey AP for those of us who don't frequent the other forums, can you give us a breakdown of what the kit will include? I've read several things about it but I haven't seen a definitive list of the features of the kit (I know that things change so it would be more of a "hope to include" list). For instance, I see the main hull master is being done in plexi, but I've heard that the hull is planned to be cast all in one piece in resin. This would obviously make it more difficult to light overall. So what is the plan for it then?
And YES I really do want one of these guys! Hehehe!

One big replica of an SD - based off the ESB version that is approximately 38" long by 23" wide. Rotocast main hull so it will be hollow. Meaning that there should be plenty of room to run fiber optics and LEDs for the engines ;) I do not remember him offering any lighting options liek clear inserts for the engines, but I suppose that you'll have to work that out yourself. As for Features - i.e. what comes with the kit - one big 8 footer based SD made of resin in a big Mo-Fo box - and thats about it ;) the pictures on that flickr link should tell you about the detailing features better then I can write about them ;)

The hull is being rotocast in one piece in resin.
I had read this but I don't think it's a smart decision. First there's the size. Rotocasting something that size will take a very large cycliscope (or whatever its called- the multi-axis spinning aparatus, hehe I can't think of the word) to get the spinning necessary. then there's the inconsistant thicknesses involved with rotoscoping. you can have a spot that's an inch thick and an inch away it could be paper-thin where even slight pressure breaks through. Then there would be lighting considerations. If the hull is one piece (Oh and is the plan that just the main hull would be rotoscoped or would it be all the way up to the bridge section?) that means it has to be cut into somewhere... and it would have to be a large enough cut to actually do some work inside the hull... and once again we'd be dealing with inconsistant wall thicknesses.
Oh and saying "well you could just not light it up" is like say Star Trek 5 was the best trek movie ever..... ;) This monster screams "LIGHT ME"!
If roto is ultimately the final decision, how are the side trenches going to be handled? Separate detail pieces that are added on or will they already be cast on the piece? Same with the upper hull sections... additional parts or already molded-on pieces?

Hehehe yeah I know more and more questions.... only because I'm already starting to make plans for this kit!
