Thank You Fuzzual. Seeing your r2 is really inspiring. need to make one now! haha

Re: R2D2 Build - Added early build pic of arm assembly

Thanks again guys! I've been really happy with the progress of this, and your comments mean alot. The project is going into high gear after the 1st of the year. I am hoping to have a couple of them made (if I can learn how to cast) in the next few months! And put my dad back to work in his shop, that's where the magic happens!

I can go through the casting process with you if you'd like. :) PM me .

I really have thought of that man, not necessarily for selling them, but just so I can make more in a quarter of the time. The truth is, I have never really caster much, and am not sure the best way to get started? I have done some small resin pieces for this, but what I would really like it to be able to cast molds of the footpads?

If anyone can point me I the direction of figuring this out I would really appreciate it, and I would be happy to make casts of peices if any of you would like some. I just don't want to sell crappy molds, so I would need practice first.

Fuzzual, this R2 unit is a beauty.

Not to mention that your dad's work on the wooden parts is top notch. I almost wish they didn't need to be painted.

Can I also just assume you're going to build in a computer interface arm? We have to work that in the console I'm working on for you. Let me know what the height of the center line of the arm will be, and I'll draw up plans for the interface to add to the design.

Oh man brother you nailed it!!! That is a must have for this:love. I will email you measurements hopefully when I get back home next week. I may have a day before Christmas to get that too you.

You guys just wait and see what SteveStarkiller and I are working on . . . Coming February, it's going to be epic!

By the way, my dad says he plans on building one from himself, completely made out of wood, crazy cool idea.

Re: R2D2 Build - Added early build pic of arm assembly

hey all, hope everyone had a great Christmas! I spent some time with my father this week, and we took some additional photos of the droid, and the parts we need to cast so that I can begin building three complete units for my basement project.

A big thanks to Finhead, as he has been a huge help so far in guiding me in starting the mold and casting process (I have never done any casting so I really appreciate the help thus far.)

At any rate, i thought you might like to see some more detailed shots of the droid. We counted roughly 50 custom parts that were all hand made. (so you can imagine building 3 or 4 of these without casting as a huge pain in the . . .!

Re: R2D2 Build - ***NEW PICS****LOTS OF THEM

LEGEND...wait for it...ARY!!!! Truely beautiful work sir. I'm sure somebody at LucasFilm is checking there warehouse for missing droids right now.

Re: R2D2 Build - ***NEW PICS****LOTS OF THEM

Thank you glenthornetms, now go build you one:)

Gunman42, I really appreciate it! I did see a limo outside my house this morning with the license plate reading (LUCAS1) on it, but no "Cease and Desist" letter, so am going to push forward:)

Re: R2D2 Build - ***NEW PICS****LOTS OF THEM

great job, amazing clean build!!!.. if you were to cast some parts i would be interested.

Re: R2D2 Build - ***NEW PICS****LOTS OF THEM

I am seriously impressed.

I started an R2 build last year but I had to sell it off due to funding.
You have done a great job with this.

Looking forward to more updates.

Re: R2D2 Build - ***NEW PICS****LOTS OF THEM

Using a 12" PVC sewer pipe for a body is actually a clever idea. I've wanted to build an astromech for some time now. Wasn't sure what kind of material to use for the body or the head, but this is a good idea. Do you have patterns for the body, head, and legs?

Re: R2D2 Build - ***NEW PICS****LOTS OF THEM

Thank you! I am certainly going to try my hand at casting parts. Honesty it will be a couple months before I get the chance, but if they turn out good, I would consider doing a run for those that would want parts.

Re: R2D2 Build - ***NEW PICS****LOTS OF THEM

I got all the measurements and plans from the r2builders club, and then just sized them at kinkos. If you go to Astromech.net you will find links to the builders club.
