This time we did a mod which was in the planning for long time, but I always was to lazy to start it.
Two years ago we were buying the animated sorting hat from noble collection. It‘s quite funny from the animation and sound but the general look and feel could be better…
So we did some brainstorming how we can mod/ m improve. At first I was thinking about a wax coating. But after some tests I was not satisfied. In next step we found the final idea. We made a real leather version of this hat. So we disambled the whole hat and chopped all sewn fabric pieces in order to get the pattern. Next step we ordered the suede leather…
Next we copied the pattern to our piece of leather. After cutting the real pain began…
That was also the reason why we never started the project before, because of the sewing process. First I tried a strong sewing machine, but even herr we had issues because of all this small edges, corners and parts. So finally we had to sew the whole hat by hand. My fingers hurt because in total it took around 24 hours.But the result was fantastic. Next step we has to tune the internal mechanism because the needs more power than the cheap original fabric. After tuning we started the weathering and badge process. Actually we nearly finished the hat and only wait for some linen for one more patch and two stripes which are hanging out of the hat. In order to go for nice presentation we did a 3D mock up of the chair from
the movie on which the hat is lying, but made a smaller version in same style but as a small table. The table legs are actually running in our 3d printer and the plate we‘ll mill tomorrow…
