QMX Malcolm Reynolds Metal-Plated Pistol Replica

The BDRs are assembled in Florida by an FX company, not mass-produced in an Asian we-could-care-less-about-quality-control factory. I very much doubt you have anything to worry about quality-wise if you order one.

This is really bad. I am seriously considering ordering the BDR of Serenity once they start taking orders again. (Max Layaway Plan)

I am reconsidering if this is how well they make stuff.

I understand some bad products get through and sometimes have to be recalled/returned but saying this was looked at and found acceptable is not good. I don't care that it's only $80. It's still $80 hard earned dollars and this is getting ridiculous.

QMX speak up here please

Just got my replacement pistol from Qmx. Quick shipping, and the pistol now as a "inspected by" sticker. Nice touch. Only problem is the new pistol has the same barrel twist that I sent the original back for. If I didn't know better I'd say the sent me the same pistol back again. Am I too picky here?

No, I don't think you're being too picky. Unfortunately if you're looking for getting another replacement then you may be waiting a while. I got mine back to them for a replacement, but due to not seeing the original shipping label email since it went to a SPAM folder, sent it in a few weeks later than I could have. They ran out of replacements and won't have more in stock for another month or so. Hopefully they can send someone with a whip to the manufacturer site and crack it a few times to get them to be sure they're assembling them correctly.

Hey Red,

Nope, not too picky. That really shouldn't have happened. ;-(

Kerr's right. We don't have replacements currently, but I can either set you up for a refund or return and -- if you do return for a new one once they come in, I'll inspect it personally.

I'm also going toi show my boss those pics so he's aware of it.

I feel badly that you guys are having these issues. Truth is, there's a very high commitment to quality and the fans with all of our stuff.

I'll PM you in a minute with my email address.

Looks to me like bunny # 12 has too much job security. This is my first and last Qmx purchase, i don't play the "lets see how many times it takes to get a decent product" game. If that is what they sent AFTER being hand inspected how can we expect to get anything worth a crap. I have been procrastinating sending mine back and now i am just going to cut the barrel off and glue it on straight and chock it up to a lesson learned about a company i'll not do business with again. If you can't make a product properly for a cheap price then raise the price to a point that you can. The whole, "well you only paid $80" is BS. They advertised it for $80. If they needed more money to make a proper one then they should have asked for more and i would have paid it. Time for the saw...

Indeed, sending it out like that after inspection is entirely the fault of QMx. However, The overall quality issue with these could just as well be the asian manufacturer screwing them over. From what I've come to undertand, low-cost factories in asia don't really give a damn if they deliver according to specs or not. They push product out the door with minimal effort and then shrug at you questioningly when you call them out- especially if you're a "small" customer like QMx must be. Look at what happened with the Pulse Rifles from HWC. That should be reason enough for them to be extra careful... and raising the cost by 50 bucks to get some decent manufacturing would've probably been better. (The first run of resin Mal pistols were very nicely cast.)

If they all came back like that, QMX should not be passing on their loss at using a crappy factory on to the customer.

QMX's reputation for vaporware is bad enough, the shoddy Serenity maquettes were bad enough, but stuff like those photos with the bent barrel & the quality inspection sticker is meme fodder, and like knifing your own reputation in the back.

WIsh I had kept hold of my stunt cast :wacko

hi Jameth1971

White spirit is described as a turpentine substitute. its petrolium based and mainly used for cleaning paint brushes, its not as harsh as thinners.

I would be very wary of using thinners and acetone would be a definite no no.

The steaking can be remove by very light swabbing with a cotton bud .

Cheers

Chris

Thank you for the info. Always wondered.

i am just going to cut the barrel off and glue it on straight
Whoah, that's polystone we're talkin' about here. It's kinda like porcelain... it'll likely chip some. Be prepared for lots of filling & sanding, just in case.
Just sayin'.

wow. i would not define a "high commitment to quality" as sending someone a poorly made prop replica, having them send it back, and then sending them another one with exact same poor craftsmanship issues. and then explaining they will have to wait over an additional month before a replacement can be sent. i would define that as an extremely POOR commitment to quality and to the fans.

that said, i got one of these from the very FIRST run and had no issues with it -- it was nicely made and all pieces were properly aligned.

i do not plan on boycotting all QMx products, but after reading this thread, i sure as heck will not be too quick to order any new stuff until i see some reviews.

As I mentioned in the early part of that same comment:

"That really shouldn't have happened. ;-(

If we had a replacement to send now, we would, but many retailers have waiting periods on replacements on popular items. However, I have been in touch with both Red and Kerr personally and I am doing what I can to take good care of them.

Additionally, I realize it seems as if there have been a number of issues with this run and the Serenity, however, we've actually has a very small number of returns -- and we have done our best to take care of any issues we're aware of.

Believe me, whoever "inspected" that pistol isn't going to have a good Monday.

Before you do that, let's wait a bit and see if we can't get you one with a straight barrel? Considering we cover return shipping both ways, all it's going to cost you is time.

I'd rather that that have something go wrong and you end up spending 80 bucks for nothing.

Fun? Are we supposed to have fun? I forgot.....haha. I just love building things and like most on this site are always looking at ways to take it to the next level. Every project is a learning experience.

Well, QMX sent me a replacement, it was not inspected by a QMX bunny, but it has no flaws, so for that, I am pleased.

It's also interesting that the barrel flaw was that it was 'warped' upwards slightly. I was surprised to see that some literally had twisted barrels, totally off-center.

Waiting to get mine today...

I have had horrible trouble with the shipper, but I have to thank Brad at QMX who went above and beyond to get the shipper to reverse sending it back to QMX, and finally deliver it to me at my new address...

I'll be holding my breath when I open her up, but given all the help that QMX have been just getting this to me, I have no doubt that there intentions are good, and if there are any issues it will be taken care of.

Alright... This morning, I got the friendly FedEx man at my door, and he delivered me my QMX Malcom Reynolds Pistol Replica....

Even with everything posted here, I got to be honest, I was really excited. While I have been collecting props for a long time now, most things I have were kits I built up, or finished by members who do this kind of work as a hobby. I love the idea that members have crossed the line, and this was my first purchase from an replica prop company....

So, I grabbed my iPhone, and documented the unveiling :)

I literally started taking pics as I opened the box. Here is the outer box being opened! (Thrilling I know!)

As I opened the box, I was created with the back of it. I got to say, I like the packaging. Much better than I expected! It worked well with the theme of the piece.

Flipped it to see the front, and then took a moment before opening it up.

The box just has a paper tab, and when you open it, your created by a business card from QMX... Nice touch, I like it! :)

After cutting away the tape on the foam box, I opened it up, and man, she's beautiful! :)

I quickly got her out of her bag, and then turned her over. You can see thats she's from a stunt casting, but this item was a long time coming to me, and it looked great!

So I held my breath, and looked down the barrel through the site!
Doh!!!!
I wont going to survive any Rever attack with this, unless its a JFK Rever, and I shoot, "back, and to the left!"

Another pic showing the barrel warp...

And front on...

Alright, so I got my Pistol, and it looks like it has the same issue as most peoples. I will comment that everything else is really tight... Grips are on nicely. the thumbscrews are straight... Just the barrel is warped....

After posting this, I will send off a email to QMX, and I have great hopes that everything will be resolved. I am heading back to Australia for a few months, and I don't see anything being fixed before I get back. I hope I can get this back to them before I leave.... <Sigh>

Im not devastated, QMX didn't rape my childhood... I'm just a little disappointed, but this will not stop me from buying again. As I posted before, they have already helped me getting the item, and I have a good feeling in the end, everything will be shiny....

Email send to QMX...
I'll be really surprised if I don't get an answer soon...
Keep you all informed...

They will respond.
I'm happy with how QMX handled my situation.
Because I bought 2 and the 2nd was just slightly not-straight, I was given a $5 refund onto my credit card in addition to them sending me another one free of charge.
